That price is super inflated! Keep shopping around. I am shocked to see that from both the dealership and Indy shop. I am in CA where labor rates are pricey and around $160-$200 an hour. I paid around $800 in Labor for a full refresh of the cooling system (radiator, water pump, tensioner, idler pully, hoses...etc.). Parts and labor were under what youve been quoted for just the labor.

$1200 will buy you a rear locker. or a full set of skids. or 1/2 a rear bumper. A fancy snorkel + cell booster. So many things . . . perhaps you consider doing this over a Saturday and paying yourself that $135/hr.

Hey, you're absolutely right on all counts. I wish I could devote the time to DIYing it, but I'm currently limited in tooling, skills, and the time itself.

For some reason, auto repair is just stupid expensive where I live and hard to come by at that. I was accustomed to completely reasonable pricing - even at the dealers - when we lived in New England several years ago. I'm thinking back to a $700 out-the-door timing belt, water pump, and transmission service (OEM parts included) for a 4.7l 4Runner at a dealer in Providence, RI less than 5 years ago... I assumed that would be the case moving back to Florida, and I was absolutely wrong.

I love the guy who runs a local Japanese-specialist shop, and I wish I could go to him for practically anything at whatever price he'd like to charge. However, the man wouldn't answer his phone to save his own life, and I don't want to leave a truck in his parking lot waiting for updates for weeks on end. So I'm basically stuck with the dealerships or a couple local shops who seem reasonably competent. In this case, it seems I'd be walking out the door at an exorbitant price even at the indy shop, so I figure I might as well have a dealership logo attached to the invoice.

If anyone is reading this and runs or knows of a solid shop in the NE Florida area, please for the love of all things holy shoot me a PM. :bang::bang:

2011, 165k miles I’m the 2nd owner. No crack yet but I have one on order from Toyota around $235 during that whole dealer sale

Look close, it’s there. Not a threat yet, it’ll need to extend toward the passenger side another 1/8-1/4” before you need to worry about failure but the crack is definitely visible.

Edit: Meant driver side.. but distracted by the MotoGP race. Damn, what a good sport.

I have a new to me 2008 Land Cruiser with 145K miles, so I just spent a couple of hours going through this thread to get myself familiar with the eventual radiator swap.

When I go onto the Olathe Toyota internet parts website, they say that the right radiator for my 2008 is part number 16400-50380 and that the 16400-80384 will not fit my truck.

I know that others here used part number 16400-40384 on their 2008 and 2009 Land Cruisers and that is what I was planning on going with, but I was just curious what the differences are between the two radiators.

Both links are showing the 50380 part.. are you sure everything isn’t just getting superseded to the 50380?

Here are the two images that I am getting at Olathe Toyota when I try to order:

My mistake..

I can’t think of anything that would prevent the 384 from bolting in to an earlier truck, but just to make sure you might try going back here and seeing who has the earlier model 200s that did the job and pinging them to see what they used. @Lange is the syntax and it should notify them you are asking for their experience.
I only mention notifications because I suspect many aren’t monitoring this thread very closely since the details have largely been hashed out.

2014 cruiser, 88,000 miles. when zoomed in super close, here's the first indication of a tiny crack forming along the right side edge. left side and lateral looks ok for now.

My 2013 has cracked at the same spot as the older ones and also appears to be seeping at the upper tank seam. A new radiator is in my future

Just adding info to the pile...my 2011 radiator made it to about 151k. I had been keeping an eye on it for a while and thought I had more time because the crack looked very small. Thankfully, it didn't happen on a trip. Definitely something to keep in mind.

2011 LX 570 PNW owned and serviced it’s entire life. I’m at 129K now. Recent coolant flush as well. I’ll get a radiator on order ASAP and do the swap myself. I need to do the valley block plate as well and I’ll do that at the same time. Lots to tear down and rebuild on the top end. Truck runs great otherwise. Cooler temps should buy me some time.

Solid plan.

Lagrange is my go-to at this point for all OEM orders. Since I started ordering with them a year or so ago, they've always offered ~30% off msrp, always had free shipping over $75, haven't charged sales tax, and have always shipped within a few days of ordering. Even when I've had issues with parts received, I can't remember waiting for more than a day for an email response from them.

I'm fortunate that they are a nice, country road, ~45 minute ride from my house. That may sound like an eternity to some, but it's 20+ minutes to nearly anything from my house. There is a new Publix 10 minutes down the road, but we generally skip that one and go to the old standby. One day my wife finally realized why and said "I know why you like to go to the other Publix." I asked why....she said "the clientele that shows up here." Which is kinda funny, we don't live in an area that is anything close to 'affordable' or inexpensive.

I'll put a pin in this one. I picked it up at Lexuspartsnow.com ($324), but I spoke to my local dealer while picking up coolant and they said they would match any dealer like Lagrange Toyota online. I'm going to start moving through them. Should have known this one.
