2006 with no remote keys... where to begin? (2 Viewers)

We picked up a 2006 4Runner Sport 4.7 liter for my sons first car. Got the rig from a friend with one key... pretty sure its a Vallet key since there is not a remote on it of any kind.

How do I even go about getting a remote entry/lock key fob programed to the vehicle?

any local locksmith should be able to program keys and a fob for you. might be extra for OEM

It's a pretty easy process of opening and closing doors, locking/unlocking, key in key out (you can find step by steps for this on the t4r.org pretty easily). I programmed a VW style switchblade key fob to my 03 like this. I believe you have to have a master(?) key though to program it like this. Can also do it through tech stream relatively easily I think. A dealer should be able to cut you a key though based off your VIN, you'll just have to have proof of ownership.
