I just bought a sweeeeet (I think) 2006 LX470. The thing that excited my son was that it has a rear seat DVD video screen. Though it powers on, it doesn't display the video (even when it plays on the front screen, when the emergency brake is on).

Reading through some forums I thought maybe I had to buy a remote to make it work right, so I did. The one I got has the infrared (IR) glass on the front, and was allegedly tested, but it seems to do nothing.

Any recommendations? We've got a long road trip coming up and it will be better for everyone if it works.

Thanks!

AFAIK those things were all dealer installed and the tech is super out of date. I'd hang an iPad from the headrest posts and call it a day.
Great, let me know what time you'll show up to do that. 😉

More seriously, we may end up there, but I'd like to figure it out before giving up.

in my experience, (unlike the GX470) all of the LX470 (and LC100) rear DVD players, were port/dealer installed.

There were the (self contained) headrest units, the (self contained) overhead units, and the 3rd row player w/ overhead (2nd row) screen units. None of them integrated with the center console DVD player, or front screen.

Thank you for helping me understand this better. I'm hearing you say that although the screen image on that overhead unit says, "Lexus" on it, it's not actually integrated with the DVD changer (that's mounted in the center console). Is that right?

If so, how did people use the DVD changer? On the front head unit screen? While parked? While driving?

And what did they do with the back console screen? Plug something else into it through video cables?

That’s been my experience on the 100 series LC/LX.

DVD audio was a thing when these were new. I bought 1 DVD audio disc (I didn’t notice much difference from a CD) & and watched part of 1 DVD movie on the front screen, in the driveway. Other than that, my DVD changer in the center console has just been used as a (audio) CD player.

Usually, either the rear screen had a built in DVD player, or there was an additional external player installed. Two common places were rear of the center console (replacing the pop out cup holder), or passenger cargo area (Behind 2nd row. In front of 3rd row) side panel (where the first aid pouch normally goes).

You knew what you were talking about, @jLB : I think in these pics you'll see the 3rd row passenger side single DVD player, the overhead screen, the remote that was supposed to work, the DVD changer in the center console, and the head unit screen affirming that the rear display is off.

I didn't have any success getting the back DVD player to play the disc I put in. Not sure if it's getting power even.

You're saying the front changer only ever worked on the front screen, and the back screen was independent for the single DVD player, right?

Any thoughts on how to turn the rear display on, or anything else that might make things work?

Wow! Thank you. Super helpful.

Might you know what the right remote is?
Nope, not off the top of my head, but with the “PT” (port/dealer installed) part number, in the link I provided for installation instructions, you could probably find that.

I tried before asking, and didn't find anything with that part number. But thank you.
