Or am I ahead taking the Garmin unit I keep in the van and just using it in the LX? The Garmin has free map updates for life. I also have an iPhone SE so wonder how important any of this nav update with the DVD really is. All I know is that the 2002 stuff doesn't show much of how things have changed around here.

I think that's the wrong one. In a 2002 it would be a Gen 2/3 unit:

NEW LATEST Toyota Lexus U08 13.1 Navigation GPS Map Update DVD Gen 2/3 EAST WEST

v13.1 is the newest and last update for the Gen2/3 Nav systems. It's a burned copy and not oem but they usually work. The data is already a few years old but it's at least 10 years newer than the original disc.

In my 2003 the drive was failing so I upgraded to a Gen 4 unit. For that, the v15.1 above is the correct disk (and also the last one to be made)

Reviving old thread, did you end up going this route with any success? I purchased the disk set and am getting the infamous "No Disk Detected".

#Nav Delete for the win.

Rotary A/C controls and Android Auto/Car Play/Google Maps rulz.

Is this compatible on 2001 models?

It's supposed to be, and I honestly assumed it wouldn't work but I figured for $13 i'd rub some money on it and see.

Feverishly googling #Nav Delete for the win.
