Glare city all up in this thread.

Who's going to follow the few 100 series owners who have done a proper retrofit?

Pffff, whatever....they are fine. The 100s headlamp assembly seems to be very well designed and puts out a good pattern without glare. I see some of these kids running around town that have them in their Hondas and they definately glare. It seems to be bad on cars with a single bulb for lows/highs.

I installed my HIDs over 2 months ago and have not been flashed once by other drivers, and I do alot of driving out in the country were there are no other lights except the cars. I used to get flashed in my FJ with the stock headlights. I think is alot about how the housing projects the light on the road. Also did a test run with my wife and I driving at each other and they are fine.

YES, they are bright if you stare right at them. So are other headlights. I think another problem is that many people eyes gravitate to looking right at them when another car is coming at them. Its kinda like when bugs get attracted to lights at night. When I was younger for some reason I did this, until I trained myself not too.

What are you talking about?

What is fine? Are you saying the stock lights are fine or are you saying LJ_24's lights are fine?

I can tell you the stock 100 lights are not "fine"

I think he was just referring to the housing...the 80 guys and other plastic headlight equipped vehicles will not appreciate HIDs as much as the 100 guys because the lights tend to get scattered in a plastic housing...glare is also a problem if you dont have glass housings

IMO, this thread wouldnt be 25+ pages long if people did not see any improvement..go HID and never look back

Here's the cliff notes...

HID upgrade is great. Pattern is good. If you go above 6000k, you'll likely be too blue in color. Some needed wiring kit to fire up ballasts. Other were plug n play. Make sure to order the mounting brackets. Don't mess with hi-beams, since low is really bright. Plus, HID isn;t good for flashing. Also, some use LED bulbs for other accessorial lighting.

FYI the 80 also has glass lenses. You are referring to the lens fluting on the 80 series lights and many older units.

Regardless all hid kits in halogen housings glare, some worse than others.

Unless they were those cheap ebay projectors they are glass.

Mine arrived yesterday. 9006, 35w 5000k. Harness and mounting brackets for ballasts. $65 total

Cliff notes for '98 LC. Order parts from DDM. Remove low beam bulbs. Cut off unsused adaptor wires. Install HID bulbs. Mount Ballasts and wire harness. Factory bulb wires plug into harness. HID bulbs plugs into harness. attach harness + and - to battery. Drive.

I'll post again after install.

Very Happy. I mounted ballasts to fenders. I can't belive I waited this long. 35w seems plenty bright to me. Took about 2 hours.

an hour and a half looking for a good place to mount it, 30 minutes plugging in all the wiring :)

Took me 3.5 hours on the GX:bang:

I will take some pics of the holes when I fill them over the weekend. For now, here are two pics of the result. The holes in the pic are obvious, as there are two in each headlight. If I back up another 20 feet, there are four rectangles :) It seems pretty obvious to me in these pictures, but I also took some height measurements last weekend and my drivers' side front is currently sitting about an inch low... dang Lexus' AHC :grinpimp:

Just installed hid's on my LX and boy are these "holes" annoying and distracting. No way to fix these without opening up the headlight itself I take it? How many LX owners here are riding around with these? I'm tempted to try and fix the projector from the inside through the bulb hole, maybe a paintbrush to cover the holes? Thoughts/suggestions?

^ I believe you will have to take the light apart to fix the squirrel finders, but you can try your idea. Keep in mind that needs to be addressed soon, your sending bright light straight into on coming traffic.

I have an 01 LX with the 55w 5000k and those three dots you see up close actually shoot straight up and to the sides. i think theyre meant to highlight street signs and such. ive never had anyone flash me for glaring them (1.5 years). however, they do look annoying to me and i want to find a way to get rid of it.

Haha..squirrel finders is a perfect way to describe them, they are all up in the trees for sure!

I worked on the pass. side headlight tonight and was able to block off the holes in the cutoff inside the projector by going through the bulb hole. This was with the headlight removed from the truck and sitting on a work bench, I think it would be very difficult if even possible to do it with the headlight on the car.

I used a product called strip caulk from 3m to plug the holes. It's a soft putty like substance that is somewhat sticky as well. I rolled up a ball of it and stuck it on the edge of a long thin screwdriver, then fed it through the bulb hole and got it in position over the hole in the cutoff. Used a long 1/4" drive extension to pack it down into the hole. The strip caulk tended to stick to the extension instead of the light at first, so I sprayed the extension tip with silicone first to prevent sticking, then packed the caulk down. Works perfectly and should stay in place pretty well I believe, this stuff never hardens or dries out.

Simple solution and well worth it I believe, much nicer to drive, just have to fix the other side tomorrow.

what part of Wilmington do you live in? My brother lives in that area and frequently visit.

I live in the middle of town, off 17th St. I ride down to Ft. Fisher and do some wheeling along the beach there from time to time, pretty tame stuff but damage free. Hit me up next time you're in town if you want, wouldn't mind seeing your rig.
