Has anyone noticed or had problems with there navigation taking them some dumbass out of the way route? The last several trips this thing has been way off in getting me to places (but ultimately getting me there), telling me to exit onto some obscure road/exit when I know for a fact that I shouldnt get off. I entered a destination into the nav system to get to the george washington bridge from my house. Now I live in the center of the Island and the Long Island Expressway is only 10-15min at best away. Ultimatly I wanted to go the the Cross Island parkway (northbound) towards the GW bridge and into NJ then into penn. For some reason the Nav tells me basicly to go all the way south (using some side roads) then west just to come all the way up north again (when im already north and right near the road its telling me to come all the way back up to). I had map quest directions writen down also and iphone directions on my phone and this thing is telling me to get off at all odd exits and roadways. I have the nav set in the right region and using main roads and even if I choose the quickest or shortest its all the same problems. I dont get it, is this thing that bad or am i doing something wrong. My other nav in the 2008 and 2010 4runners and my range rover were perfect, this thing is terrible.

I've had some issues wiht the nav, not to that extent though... I guess I don't understand why they just can't put googlemaps in there, I"m sure it's a $$$ thing... IMO it would look better and work better... just my 2 cents

One thing to note is the 2013 system is different than the 2011 system. The 2011 system is similar to what I had in my '06 100 series and to put it mildly ... it sucked. The 2013 is world's better, but one of my old Garmin Nuvi's still beats it hands down for routing.

one thing that could be causeing some "weird" routes being chosen is if you have the "route around traffic" in the "ON" position... just thinking outloud

The issue I have is with a lack of "routable" roads. The database for the county I live in and the counties between where I live and where my family lives have very few roads that are available for the nav to use for routing other than interstates and national highways - hell one road I drive on on my way home is "routable" until I cross the county line. The road is still in the system, just not routable and not visible until you zoom in to 0.25 mi.

My drive home fom work is 3.7 miles. If I ask the nav system to guide me home. it takes me on a route that is 8.5 miles long, then leaves me with 1.5 miles to fend on my own on "unverified" roads that are in fact state highways.

That said, if this is my worst complaint about the rig (and it is), it is a minor one .... The nav unit in my old Ram 2500 was a lot better, but the truck was a true P.O.S. compared to my 200 ..

As a side note, I got a survey from JD Power over the weekend asking for feedback on the nav system in my Land Cruiser ....

At least you have a map. The Toyota Nav in my '08 cuts out at a certain north latitude. Anything pretty much north of Vancouver BC is a big gray mass of nothingness. Makes the system pretty useless in Alaska. I've heard they fixed that problem with the latest generation though.

All of Alaska is now considered a "Detailed coverage area."

As is all of the Great White North:

Unlike some areas of the Lower 48 which only provide detailed coverage in major metropolitan areas:
