200 series - maybe not the best choice (10 Viewers)

At first I wondered if this was clickbait. Then I started reading and still wondered. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I wish I could trade you my 5th gen runner for your 2016 LC. I'd love to own that! I say that because I absolutely LOVE my 2013 LC. Not only do I love my 200, but I love my KO2s (it even looks like my receipt says E rated). I am regularly blown away at how quiet and smooth they are. I've had BFG T/As on all almost all my Toyota 4x4 builds even going back to my 4R SAS (before I was a cruiser guy). Also blows my mind how insulated the 200 is. My (wife's) 4Runner is much louder inside and you can tell it's half the vehicle the 200 is (although I am still a fan of them as well).

I will say it's possible that I love my 200 so much because I am coming from a 100 before this, and an 80 before that. So I am comparing against those, which I still very much appreciated. I no longer commute to work. I often find myself looking for errands to run (It's also my DD) just so I can take it for a spin.

I don't hang out with artist types very often, but just this year I realized that I AM an artist! I am an artist and this 200 is is my masterpiece. My work of art. Everything related to my LC is about the experience. The spreadsheet beforehand leading up to the purchase. The build. The drive. The camping. The offroading. From the easiest trail to the toughest ones I shouldn't even be on as I break my axle. I remind my kids it's less about the destination and more about the journey. I love it as much as my grandfather loved his FJ60 and later his LX450 until his passing earlier this year. A local city mayor and I were even hiding from our wives once and just sat in the back of my 200 while we watched a movie and worked on our laptops.

I guess we are very different people. That's okay. I will say I am surprised you created a username and profile.

I think between 285/60R18, 275/65R18, and 275/70R18 there is every possible tire for sale including the no-name ones...but that shouldn't matter because the offset "sucks" more than the RW wheels. Then again, why would offset even matter if you don't off-road enough...?

Trade the 200 back in and you’ll realize why we all love this platform so much… can’t hide $$$

Luckily the 200 holds value much better than any 4R so you shouldn’t be upside down financially.

Or you could get an LX570 for the best factory suspension known to mankind.

MPGs?! Never heard of her!

This guy gets it.

Friend just got one of the last 4R before the Gen change. Paid dumb $ for it. Tried to talk him into used LC and he wasn’t hearing it.

After a month of ownership he drove my old 2010 Relic with 220k miles and now regrets his decision

I love Toyotas but the 4r are the most overpriced, under powered vehicle ever made IMHO

True story

You think the KO2s are too aggressive, and that AT3W would be a better choice in that regard?

Your "problem" is a bent wheel and a mismatched spare?

lolololol

Enjoy the 4Runner.

Whatever you think of the 4runner their resale value is insanely high.

The Toyota SUV with the best resale value isn’t the Land Cruiser

surprising to read you're that disappointed in the 200. Its the smoothest, best handling SUV I've ever owned. I've owned some 4runners so I can compare the two. I have E-rated K02 on mine and its still a great ride, even before I added all my mod weight.

But that's my opinion and you should do what you like best. Even though it makes absolutely no sense to us 200 owners 😂

Yeah, 200's suck. Take her to the crusher.

Not a KO2 fan either, friends all seem to like them. As noted the overall preferred tire is the Michelin Defender LTX MS2. I went with Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail® AT 275/65/R18.

If you want five matching wheels from a 2015, complete with TPMS send me a PM. I am probably not going to mount them again.
Went with the same size tire as well. Slightly taller but no rubbing issues and many more options for C and P-rated tires.

The first article you mentioned talks about the 4R prior and post Covid dates. Without Covid the 4R resale wouldn’t be nearly as high as it is today, not to mention continued inflation rates.

I’ll be more specific sense you took my reply out of context.

Remember, my response was in reply to the OP’s specific scenario.

If the OP bought his 200 for X price today and went to trade in the 200, let’s say, 3 months down the road, the trade in price will be relative to X price.

Purchasing a brand new 4R and driving it off the lot and then attempting to trade that same vehicle in 3 months down the road would be an absolute financial disaster.

I’ve bought and sold my fair share of 4R’s. They are a dime a dozen and a perfect car for new drivers. Parents are always wanting to buy their kids a 4R. Th market demand stays high because kids are turning 16 every day.

You’re trying to compare apples to oranges.

Ps sorry if I hurt your feelings about 4Rs. That wasn’t my intention and I hope you have the room in your heart to forgive me. <3

Come on— Honestly?
A dead walrus handles better than these things!
I guess I should have worded that differently. My wife's BMW is much more responsive in performance, steering, power and cornering. But it's not an SUV or capable off roader. If we're comparing SUVs like 4runners, sequoias, tahoes, Jeeps, and so forth, I stand by my statement.

The original post compared the 200 to a 4runner. I've owned multiple 4runners and recently spent days wheeling along side my sister in her 4runner. It's a great vehicle, but the 200 is just better. More comfortable, better handling, more power, built better. But like I said, "my opinion" based on what i have owned and driven. You don't have to agree with me. If you use yours primarily for running to work and the mall, I get it. You can find a better vehicle for that. I bought mine for off-road trips and have modified it for such, including suspension mods. For my use case I'm happy with its handling and performance. It is capable off-road and comfortable, quiet and powerful enough to cruise in comfort at 80-90 for 8 hrs back home.

But who cares what I think, if anyone doesn't love their 200 they should sell it and get what they love, even if it's a Chrysler product.

Your first sentence makes no sense. X is relative to X, ok...

You are comparing used, already depreciated 200 series to a brand new, 6th Gen 4 runner.

Why would I have hurt feelings? Seems like you are upset that 4Runners hold their value.

4 Runners, 5th gen and older (6th gen has not bee around long enough) have insane resale value. Also, congrats on buying and selling your fair share of 4runners.

I currently own a 4th gen 4runner v8 4wd, 2017 gx 460 (luxury package with rear air ride and "adjustable suspension"), and a 21 570. I think the 570 by far rides the best (including when the 4R and GX had lower mileage). The 4R, even with 155k miles on factory suspension, handles the best; it des have x-reas. Honestly, I think the GX rides like complete crap. Handles well, but suspension is just way too rough for that price point (regardless of the suspension setting). I bought it with 16k miles, even rode poorly then.

Im not sure of how the LC compares to a 570....but while the 570 is a little boaty, it absoluelty soaks up the bumps and is amazingly quiet on all but the biggest pot holes.
