Note: this is super trivial and purely cosmetic

Does anyone know for sure if a 1978 FJ40 had the following:

1) The word "Pocket" on the glove box knob / handle painted in white letters like the other knobs (heat, choke, etc)?

2) Were the words "off, heat, defrost" painted white on the heater control box on the left side near the lever?

If anyone has pictures of theirs, please post so I can check it out. I just recently painted my dash knobs, but overlooked the pocket and then got curious about the heater box as well. Neither one of them looks like they've ever had any paint on them on my FJ and all the other knobs showed previous paint in the letters.

looks like "pocket" = no paint & heat/ defrost had paint...
I'm sure that there is someone on here that knows for sure...mine is not perfect or garage kept all these yrs

I think I agree that it would look better if they were all painted, I was curious about originality though.

Nonetheless, I think I'll join the club and just paint all mine white, but may wait to do my heater box controls since I have a rebuild kit on the way from Shane so I'll be taking it all out then and may want to wait until then.

Thanks for the feedback, you sound pretty confident in the originality...I'll see if some other folks chime in just to see what others say.

I think both of mine have pocket on it but I have 74's, but I'll have to check.

Oh and flip that bezel! I've seen you around town! join up on the ONSC forum...

I wrote an email to that club a while back, but never got a response. Does it cost anything? when do you guys meet up? I've been to the site a few times, but I've only ever seen ride meet ups that are far away that I'm not sure my FJ could make it to :)

If you meet locally and not on the trails (I currently don't have working 4WD) I would love to meet up.

What did you mean by: Oh and flip that bezel!

Wow I think I got it now.

I had no idea the grill / white thing / bezel was on upside down. I'm going to blame the previous owner. I'll take care of it this weekend.

I thought it was symmetrical and had no idea.

Let me know if I missed anything. Thanks for pointing it out.

Someone must have painted mine, I've got 2 74's that are white on the inset...

Just checked the '78 that I bought new. The heater damper control is painted, but the glove box door is not. That's stock.

it has been flipped! Don't rip my turn signals or my toyota emblem (Again previous owner and I have on my list to fix / change)
