Tool came tonight. Too late to really get to work on anything, but I will start first thing in the morning.

I finished a couple holes that were in the back. There is one more for tomorrow.

I did modify the bend a little. The two ribs used to connect in the back. Crazy skillz needed to make a duplicate of that one. So, instead I did what I could. Still happy with how it turned out even though it is not how it rolled off the factory floor.

Here are a couple pics.

Finally,

Here is a before and after shot of the dash. I had no idea what used to rest in those holes, but I didn't want them there any more. Cut out the holes and made a piece of metal to fit.

Question: Are my spot welds close enough to go ahead start grinding the welds off? Do I need to weld every inch of the plate in order to make it look perfectly flush?

Thanks,

Dave

My Cruiser has(had?) some repairs that are just spotwelds around a patch panel like you're showing. Every one of them has since rusted and popped out. I would weld all the way around each piece for the best quality repair. Each gap is a place for water and rust to infiltrate in the future.

My $.02...

Ditto what Nick said.

Rust, paint will crack in that area, etc....

Weld it all, grind it off. Go slow, 1/4" on one side, 1/4" on the other, try not to get it so hot that you can't touch it. If it's to hot to touch, probaby will warp.

I try to have a lot of different stuff going when I'm doing stuff like that. Do a little, something else so it can cool down for a few minutes and come back to it.

I love seeing your progress Warrior... Your giving this truck back its dignity with the rear ribs. Do you have an estimated date for completion on this rig?

Cheers

Thanks Mike for all you encouragement. It really helps to know that other people out there are into this project.

We are planning on moving to Oregon the first of February. That means I need to have the truck finished by then. Basically we are tired of SB and want to try something completely different. Chelsea visited some friends and liked it up there. So, off we go. No job, no place to live, and basically we know nobody. And we couldn't be more excited.

It's good to see there's still brave people out there with lofty goals to boot.

Again, great work on the LV, keep it up!

Doesn't look like much progress, but I feel real good about today.

Basically my goal was to fab up the piece that supports the 1/4's. The picture speak for itself. Yes I have printed out pics of Matt's work and taped them on the rig. Make all the difference in the word.

Also, welded up the piece on the dash and cleaned it up. Pretty happy with that as well. It will need a very little amount of "bondo" to smooth things out.

Good to know you think they were for speakers. Some of you guys could really mess with me and say they were some OEM hole and mine were the only one left on this planet.

FYI: I did finish welding all the way around before I cleaned it up.

Nice work!

By the way, where are you moving to in Oregon? Did I miss it earlier in this thread? Anyway, I live in Central Oregon and east of the Cascades is totally different than the west. Great for cruisin' and explorin'. Welcome to Oregon!

Nope, didn't miss anything. We are headed for Bend. Definately look forward to hooking up with a bunch of guys and talk shop. Please feel free to post anything you feel we should do or know before we head up there. I think we will have a place to stay nailed down here in the next couple weeks.

Thanks for the welcome.

Dave

Bend is great...just don't tell anybody else. Hee hee.

Lots of cruisers around and plenty of places to explore within a few minutes of town. Bring all of your toys-this place is a playground. Good people and plenty to do. Not much advice but feel free to drop me a pm and I will give you my contact info if you are interested in going cruisin'. By the way, you should check out the Oregon TLCA chapter website found at cascadecruisers.com.
If you need real estate help- my wife is a realtor. If you have not heard, real estate has been going through the roof here but rentals are still reasonable. Hope the move goes well for you and hope to run into you in the future.

Finally....

Put the 1/4's on. This has taken place over the past couple days. Much happier with the drivers side than the passenger side. But overall I think they are looking good. To speak the truth, my fears of not getting this truck put back together have calmed down. At least until it is time to paint. Anyways, here are a couple pics. Not sure how well you can tell, but on the pass side I will have to do more work to get everything evened out. The 1/4 hangs lower than the corner and the wheel well. Not sure what I should do, so I am in need of suggestions. Lower the corner and wheel well or raise the 1/4. I am confident that the ribs are in the correct spot. Only measured it like 1 million times before I welded.

Thanks for looking.
