The rear quarters look pretty good. Noce progress.

Lower the other work. As long as you are POSATIVE the ribs are right. No use in doing it wrong... right?

No, you are deffinately correct. I did make the corners on a whim and there is a chance that the corner and wheel well are incorrect.

No, I am not POSITIVE that the ribs are correct. I did measure a million times and the measurement is the same on the drivers side and that side lines up perfectly.

Ok, so lowering it is. Thanks for the advice.

how big do they get?

I have been told that she will get between 30-35 lbs. The major reason why I got her instead of a BullMastiff or English Sheep Dog is because of the breads intelligence and high level of energy. Also I have been told they are extremely loyal dogs.

You seem interested? She came from litter of 9. Last week I know there were still 2 available. PM me if you are interested and I will share the info.

Wow, these burnt ribs cleaned up nice! I just saw the new pics of the burnt rig on www.root45.com. Looks great. Whoever took them out literally nuetered the rig IMHO. Good to see you giving it back its dignity!

Keep up the good work, I look forward to this thread weekly!

Finally....

Put the 1/4's on. This has taken place over the past couple days. Much happier with the drivers side than the passenger side. But overall I think they are looking good. To speak the truth, my fears of not getting this truck put back together have calmed down. At least until it is time to paint. Anyways, here are a couple pics. Not sure how well you can tell, but on the pass side I will have to do more work to get everything evened out. The 1/4 hangs lower than the corner and the wheel well. Not sure what I should do, so I am in need of suggestions. Lower the corner and wheel well or raise the 1/4. I am confident that the ribs are in the correct spot. Only measured it like 1 million times before I welded.

Thanks for looking.

I can tell you who took the ribs out! They were my neighbors, and by doing so, they saved the truck from being taken to the crusher. I've seen pics of it back then. It would have completely rusted out by now, and been trashed. Since they couldn't just go to the corner Cruiser rib store and pick up new ones, they had the rusted out stuff cut out and got it fixed as best they could. they loved that truck, it was their only vehicle for 15 years, and they owned it for almost 25. The only reason they had that work done was to be able to keep drivin it because it was, "a part of the family."
So, you say they neutered it, I say they saved it.....

I'm sorry if this makes me come off sounding like an ass, as I don't mean to. It's just that I've seen lots of those comments on the list, and it just feels like someone is giving Bill & Carol a slap every time I read one.

Nah, I dont take it as you coming off as an ass. Good history. But the truck is getting its dignity back.

You say tamatoes, I say tomatoes.. :)

And I am an ASS

I would love to see the old pictures. Scan them in and post them up. Put them up on Root45 too. I'm sure Vintage pictures arent excluded!

This type of back story is exactly what we need. Like the 1/4's I sent to Dave, and the rig that was sacrificed for them. It was also heading to the crusher after the fire. My wifes hates me, evertime she goes out back, for bringing that thing home. But if I had let it go out like that, Dave's truck would've been in a different way right now. You have no idea how happy it makes me to see them in place. Hell my wife was even stoked to see the pics.

Having these quarters made such a difference in putting this wagon back together. My other option was to have a guy here in town fab something up. There is no way that guy could have even come close to getting them accurate.

BMAN please tell your wife thanks on my behalf. Really has made a difference.

Also, would you mind posting the story of how your wagon was burned? Like all of Abe's stories, I really enjoy hearing them.

Dave

Between yesterday and today, I lowered the corner and wheel well. Also welded in a piece in the trunk and back. Figured that I should take the front clip off for painting. Such an easy thing to do and the wagon will look much better at the end of the day.

I feel much better about the passenger corner and quarter. I put some "bondo" on the quarter just to make things look a little better. Also had primer in rattle can so I just sprayed that on there.

Looking nice... The ribs make a huge difference eh?

Nice to see the fenders/hood off with the motor still intact... I need to drop a tractor band in one of these soon. the pictures helps see how it should all bolt up

Abe, your passion for this wagon is AWESOME!!!!! You are not sounding like an ass, just a guy that is bringing a different side of the story. Thanks for posting. And that story is great.

Sorry, I don't know what a tractor band is. Could you explain?

Also, i would be more than happy to take more pics if you need a specific area.

Glad that nobody took offense to my stupid rant. LIke I said, I didn't want to sound like an ass, but I felt like Bill and Carol were being insulted. They loved the truck so much, they still owned it despite the fact that they hadn't started it/driven it for years. THey tried to sell it, but couldn't get anyone to come look at the truck (tucked back in boulder canyon) for years (just goes to show you how important it is to know the right people). Since they couldn't find a buyer, and didn't want to send it to the junk yard, it just sat there for years until I got it from them. When I got it, it had three age flattened tires, and a JC Penney battery (they haven't made those in like 10 or 15 years). Also, they had an oil filter from some company like, "Big A" or something. Dave could tell you the exact brand as they had extras, so its still got one. As nearly as I could find out though, that company went out of business years ago also.

the orignal owner (Marty Frick) used to work at the NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric reseach Assocaition) and Federal facility here in Boulder (unless Dave took the sticker off, it still has a parking/entry sticker from there on the truck. Bill (of Bill and Carol fame-- second owners and the people I got the truck from) is/was an economist at the facility and they bought it from him.
Just a little back history for Dave there. the truck is really looking awesome. I am amazed at how far you have come with it in so little time. I have also been really surprised at how much metal you have ended up needing to cut out of it. I always thought it had far less rust than it has turned out to have.

Sticker is still there on the window. Not taking that one off either.

I am surprised how much I am cutting out as well. There is no way on earth I would have cut that much out prior to reading Matt's thread. Reading his stuff taught me that it is easier and better to get to the good metal and weld on that rather than trying to slap something together. Before every time I fire up the cutting wheel, I think "do I really need to cut all this out"? But at the end of the day I am happy I did.

Picked up the seats today from the seat guy. We are really happy with them. Cost more than doing the SOR thing, but we have colors we like and they are installed. Took just a shade under a decade, but at least we are not waiting on them.

Mostly I have been finishing up some spots that needed to be welded and putting mud on the quarters. Here are a couple pics of the progress along with the seats.
I think my dad is coming over tonight and he will help with the bondo and sanding. Nice thing is that we are getting closer to paint day. Right now the aim is to primer this weeked. I would like to primer the misc. parts along with hood, fenders and grill.

Also, I hope to be getting my column shift parts this week which I will install as soon as they arrive.
