Fan shroud fitted and running:

We have boost and EGT's.
I've got a boost controller plumbed in so I'll sneak it up to 14 PSI

Thanks Will :)
Nearly finished - had the AC lines hooked up yesterday just got to get the pump timing done by someone who knows what they are doing then its over to Mr Engineer to get the engine swap documented an on file with the authorities - thing we have to do in Australia....

Fantastic work! I bet it stays nice and cool with the shroud. And I’m sure once it is back on the road, you’ll spend several weeks (Months? Years?) ironing out the details.

I tell my wife, it’s never really “done”, just close enough to drive.

Indeed :) Always need a reason to be tinkering in the shed....

One step forward, 2 steps back.... Started losing coolant out of the overflow bottle as in it just disappears.... and system not coming up to pressure.... Would hold 16PSI on testing but getting milkshake under the oil filler cap so off with the head and the investigation begins... albeit slowly. No water in the sump oil thats black as usual and the level isn't going up.
Off to have the head crack tested now :) There's a few trace marks out of the pre comp chambers but cant 'feel; anything with the thumbnail a crack test will prove one way or the other sigh.

That stinks! Hope you get an answer and get it put back together quickly.
Not feeling too bad... Yes the head is going to the great recycling centre in the sky but the crack test shows it had previously been repaired by PO's unknown. Pic of the sludge in the rocker cover after about 100klms.... So a new head will be pipelining soon and we'll move on :)

That sucks!

Are you going to upgrade to the AMC head?

Yep, going AMC but buying a bare head and having the seats precision cut with new valves as opposed to a complete head. I'm going with the engine shops recommendation doing this way over a mass assembled head. Fingers crossed.
Found the head had been welded before but here's the culprit:

New bare AMC head sourced, valve seats re-cut, new valves, shimmed, all by done by local machine shop, and ready to go.
Cold side manifolds done, will do hot side tomorrow then she's ready to fire up again.

So i decided time to upgrade from the factory 3L 2.8 diesel to a 1KZ. I don't want the reliability issues involved in aftermarket turbos on a 3L

What reliability issues?

seems like 12psi max and EGT's below 1200 lead to happy 3L 2.8's

Yeah, the amount of threads on Aussie LN106 facebook pages tells a different story. I'll take a factory turbo motor any day over aftermarket parts can be sourced anywhere and less problematic. Thats my take anyway :)
