Looks awesome. I need to see how much hood clearance I have as I'd love to do something similar.

Hahaha, the pleasure is in doing it yourself Douglas.

Fab it up and pay someone to weld it up for you, it's waaay cheaper than buying one with a fancy label on it.

I'm committed to this one now, but I know the bonnet scoop has the potential to be a big headache, I'll know more in a week or two.

I'm fitting a remote oil catch can to the crankcase breather and plumbing it back into the turbo oil return line to the sump.

What I'm thinking for the next iteration of this setup, is that the standard rocker cover has that big hump on top for the breather baffles etc. Maybe by using a remote catch can I can cut all that away from the rocker cover and lower the total height by 40mm allowing a massive WTA I/C under the bonnet. Which would be very stealthy indeed...

I'm also thinking that next time I may cut the head flange off a manifold and fab up a complete manifold using round tube from the flange straight to a massive collecter I/C airbox. Mmmm so many ideas...

Beter go do some work

tapperred manifolds are over rated ive been told. looks like you arnt going to run out of volume. probably run cooler with no silicone hoses all over it. are you adding cooling fins to it, to shed heat? starting to look like the next level of pie warmers. i wouldnt sell yourself short on ideas ,these trucks just started seeing mods in the last couple years, period.

That's what I've heard as well, tapered plenums don't suit the 1HZ/1HDT etc with a front feed (@ #1 cyl) as in a ATA setup. The back of the head/firewall doesn't allow the end of the plenum to go passed the #6 inlet port and get enough volume back there.

As far as I've ever read tapered plenums are a means to keep intake port air velocities as fast as possible. That and longer tuned runners greatly increase VE in NA engines. So when your talking forced induction all that tuned stuff goes out the window as the air densities and temps fluctuate wildly. I suspect providing the port with enough immediate volume to grab is what is required to maximize cylinder filling in that particular regard, cus if the 1hdt was going the tuned runner route it's runners would be a couple feet long even to catch the secondary waves. Last I checked they are like 2 inches. On an NA engine they would be the length of runners tuned for engines that peak power at like 9000 rpm.

If you've ever seen a flow simulator for a side entry. As the the cylinders draw, it disrupts the flow and pressure waves along the plenum. This means the plenum needs to be very large, or tapered.

It's driving me mad posting on multiple threads. If anyone is interested in my manifold mods/Troopy build, I'll be putting everything on to a build thread called Troopzilla

Got my modified intake on today and no. 1 injector line is hard up against the manifold, will I be right to give it a slight bend?

where about is it hitting?
Are you sure they are put back together correctly.

Should not have to modify the lines on a 1hot. You sure it didn't get snagged and bent . Somethings up i think . And i wouldn't call that a gem it looks exactly like my s ettup , there is better designs.

Sorry should of said its a 1hz, yes they are on correctly. The manifold has been widened so the line must be bent slightly towards the tappet cover.

custom XXi ic/plenum for the gt3071r, also replaced little k&n pod with nice big afe one

Dual Inlet Manifold
1992 HDJ81v 1HDT, MAMBA TD05-18G with 9 blade STS hot side and 11blade GTX wheels, 3" exhaust, porting and valve work.

The decision to dual the intake manifold was in response to reports of cylinders 1 and 6 not getting as much air flow as the other cylinders. I have looked at the many different builds on Mud and decided I wanted to try and balancethe flow to all cylinders. The fact that the turbo is one on side of the engine and the intake is on the other dictates that we must make a 270 degree turn with the air to get it into the engine. Taking the shortest smoothest path was a consderation.

I also wanted to try and balance the flow thru the intercooler. It seemed to make sense to have the single inlet split into 2 outlets from the intercooler. Trying ensure the flow across the intercooler was evenly distributed as to maximize the effciency of a smallish intercooler. (Worth noting...IanB pointed out a possible problem with unbalanced cooling air across the intercooler as configured)

Packaging is always a consideration and this seemed to fit. I still have work to do build a pan and gasket to seal the intercooler to the hood and lock the air from the fan getting under the cooler. A little fiberglass work on the scoop too.
Work in progress....

Great concept. I think you could make some flow improvements on the intercooler turbo side. But the rest looks great.
