I have one of those click thingies to measure belt tension, if you want to borrow it. Can't remember what the belts are supposed to read tho. I guess I'll need to dig up my FSM. I think you might live or work near me...Prov Rd/Old Prov Rd.

Coincidentally, I'm getting a nasty AC squeal in my green truck. It had been doing it after I replaced the pulley because I had the tension too low. Tightened it up and it lasted about a month before starting again. I intend to replace the AC belt but will wait on receiving a new bearing, like Steve said above. My junk has a rust problem down below that's been getting worse over the last few years.

Thanks! the guy that is going to check my compression tomorrow will probably have one.. If not I may take you up on your offer. I actually live in Huntersville and work off of WT Harris.. I wish I lived further south, it seems like there are way more of you Cruiser drivers down that way!!!

If I was going to spend the coin to rebuild the 1fz... i'd at the very least give it a kick in the boot.

@jfz80 do you remember the guy who used to work at slee who now can do a rebuild on these for 275hp and 300 something ftlbs of tq? Was it Ben?? I can't remember the name of his shop either.

But at the same time I wouldn't rebuild it. you can get a short block for around $3500 last I heard... although that was 3 years ago, may have gone up... and then search for a SC kit for that kick in the pants.

Youre thinking of Robbie Antonson aka powderpig and his company in boulder. Adventure offroad? I believe. He does the 1fz’s rebuilt to 4.6HC.

Last summer my A/C just quit.. I had redone the entire system from the compressor back the year before and that was the last piece that wasn't brand new.
The reason I ask is because of possible debris from the old compressor in your system. Usually you want to flush out the AC lines of the old junk before installing anything new. Debris in the AC lines can lead to a brand new compressor seizing up pretty quickly. Even if you replace everything, you still have to flush the lines.

I'll bet you live near @NTAPHSE. He drives a built white FJ60; it's a monster and hard to miss.

That sounds about right.. I was thinking robbie at first but then went to ben for some reason

Adventure Offroad is correct. That's where @beno set up shop when he was out here!

4. I plan on checking the compression this week so maybe I will know more?

FYI - The compression info can be helpful but won't always tell the story. My compression numbers were great only days before my HG blew.

Also, you may want to check with Marshall @Trollhole for his recommendation on radiators. His shop did extensive work on my cooling system and they addressed nearly all the items @stevezero and others have mentioned. If you are doing this yourself, below are some of the part #s and a general idea of the retail costs of these items.

16400-66081 Toyota Radiator Assembly 1.00 $495.07
87240-60010 Heater Control Valve Toyota 1.00 $111.65
90301-29006 Water Outlet O-rings 3.00 $ 5.09
Heater Hoses/Radiator Hoses/Clamps 1.00 $265.00
16100-69325 Water Pump (1FZ ) 1.00 $188.00
16210-66010 Toyota Fan Clutch 1.00 $193.07
90916-03094 Thermostat 1.00 $ 26.60
16346-66020 Thermostat O-Ring 1.00 $ 5.09
89422-35010 Coolant Temp Sensor (for ECU) 1.00 $ 72.87
TOYCOOL - Toyota Anti-freeze 2.00 $ 26.00

You may want to bring your rig down to Trollhole's and have them fully inspect / assess your vehicle. It may cost you a few hundred in labor/time but it might be worth it to have a trained eye look over everything in detail. I had multiple issues happening including performance/cooling/power steering/extensive leaks/axle/bearing/brake etc. I got an estimate for everything (passed out when I read the total, woke up later) and then chose piece meal which items I had the budget for. The other items I'm tackling myself but now with the confidence of knowing that they are actually legit items that need to be addressed and I'm not chasing ghost problems.

Also, take it from me, seriously consider doing the HG while you are addressing everything around it. It will cost more money and time to do it but the last thing you want to do is go through what happened to me. Read this thread if you need convincing: Still in Shock

Hope this info is helpful.
