I am working on pulling my 1FZ-FE tonight and am getting pretty close. I have a question though. The FSM says to pull the tranny with the engine. I don't mind doing it but is it really necessary? What is recommended? I blew a head gasket a couple of weeks ago (separate post about exploding radiator) and once I got into the engine I found that #6 cylinder was toast. Planning on a refresh of the engine and looking for guidance.

Thanks.....

Ok. I will go ahead with engine/tranny pull. Thanks for reply :)

I did it the hard way... :D

But then again I had a full shop with racks and full aray of tools!

I would still recomend following FSM...

Proof!

I would do it the hard way too, I'd consider carefully supporting the bellhousing, perhaps with the factory emergency bottle jack. ;)

Separating the engine from the trans is quite a pain. 2 people and some very long extensions are a must.

If you do pull out both together, make sure you have a very sturdy engine hoist. My Harbor Freight hoist was borderline with just the engine. These engines are heavy are heavy and the transmissions are large too.
