1F or 2F what should I do?

Again thanks for the insight. I will never know as much as you guys with this stuff.

I plan for strictly off road and maybe a run to the hardware store on the weekend. I don't plan on anything too crazy, mud, swaps, hills, no rock crawling. It will not be a daily driver.

I hate the three on the tree (no to offend those 3OTT lovers), but I want a stick shift. The motor seems tired. I am not too concerned on keeping it original, I just want it reliable.

Here are my thoughts. If I am going to spend the money to rebuild and engine and transmission, why not do the 2F and 4sp. It seems to be the guidance I have read from others.

Your thoughts?

Its a no brainer, rebuild and install the 2F

Right! We are buried in analysis paralysis. Rebuild the 2F and when it's ready to rock do the swap. Easy.

Tune the F, drive until:
1-It dies
2-You have rebuilt the 2F.

Swap in the 4 speed anytime. That's a no brainer.

The 2F is a better motor, but there is nothing really wrong with an F in good tune. Just me personally, but I would consider rebuilding an F motor a waste of time and money.

My 84 2F runs smoother than my 76 2F. According to Jim or Mark or someone, it comes better balanced from the factory and I believe it. So if you get your 2F rebuilt, pay the extra and have it balanced.

I thought I would have to switch the drive shafts also.

What about the differntial gears? Did they come with lockers back in 75? Are they really needed?

I also heard that I would have to lenghten the drive shaft for the PTO wench.

Sorry for so many questions, I kinda go the rebuild bug going right now.
