Also of note, I was watching some tire reviews by Ronny Dahl (look him up if you don't know who I'm talking about) and he made the comment that the Maxxis Razr was the best MT he personally had run on his truck. This surprised me because he's had Nitto Trail Grapplers, Toyo Open Country's, General Grabbers, and other name brands. I always kind of thought of the Maxxis tires as being OK but not great.. guess I was wrong..

We've got the RAZRs on our 80. They grip, yes. But they're loud, they chunk, have a weird vibration between 5 and 10mph as each lug hits, and the sidewalls show more signs of visible abuse than most other MTs our group runs.

Another anecdote against Maxxis: I was shopping around for my 37s and asked a buggy guy's opinion of them. He said their rep showed up to an event recently and left early after the guys gave them so much grief for their tires not holding up. I was surprised there as I figured the competition Treps did well. Apparently they stick but they don't hold up to abuse.

We'll run ours out and then see where the market stands.

There's gonna be a thousand opinions on tires...

Yeah I hear ya on the thousand opinions. I guess I was just surprised to hear them get such high praise from someone who really uses and abuses his tires. Ronny seems to be genuine and generally speaking I trust his advice (always subject to change).

Yeah, those would be some expensive tires!

It's hard to trust anyone on youtube anymore...there's so much money being thrown at those guys to shill some product. Some play it off better than others, but at the end of the day it's a veiled sales pitch. Than again, maybe I'm jaded.

I agree except he blatantly says in his review that they're just his thoughts on the product. He also openly admits right at the beginning that he was given the razrs as a product test. I my opinion he didn't hype them, he just happened to like them. I can respect that.

Tires just showed up. Amazon got them to me in less than a week even though multiple shops said they couldn't get their hands on them. I almost settled on another tire because I thought these would take too long to arrive. I guess the moral of the story is don't take no for an answer on something as expensive and important as new rubber. I'm planning on getting these mounted next week. I'll update the thread once they're on the truck.

Those old shoes were bringing in many issues. You and the truck will be much happier with new. Glad to see you were able to get your hands on some.

I agree. I feel kinda dumb now realizing my tires were on the brink of failure. At a glance they didn't look that bad and I guess dry rot wasn't on my mind. Now I know.

Beware; just because amazon found what other said they couldn't, they could have been on the shelf somewhere for a long time. Check the date stamp. Im sure you will be fine, just a side note.

Good advice. What's considered an OK date range? Last 6 months? A year? Obviously the newer the better but at what point should I initiate a return?

Lot's of opinions and factors I guess. Generally I would say 5-7yrs. But I'm no expert.

I'd love to know what the policy is on this, but I've never seen anything clear. I'd wager it to be very fluid vendor to vendor.

OK but the point being tires on shelves last a heck of a lot longer than tires out in the elements. So if these puppies are two years old but look brand new and smell like the inside of a rubber plant, I should be good?

I would say yes, just was just a heads up. That's all.

OK so after I got home I checked the manufacturing date on the tires. All of them were made this year. Four from the same batch. The 5th is a couple months older. I'm pretty happy with that.
