The complete Engine/A442F auto/Transfer case was purchaed through G&S CruiserParts in BC and professionally installed here by the LC Diesel Guru - Raymond Fourie in the summer of 2004. The cost was $16,000+. At that time, the vehicle had 115,000 km (72,000 miles) and the engine assembly had 50,000 km(31,000miles)
The vehicle now has 176,500 km(109,700 miles), I runs flawlessly and burns and leaks NO OIL and as you see gets little regular use and no hard use.
The vehicle get 10.5-11.5 L/100km or about 20.5-22.5 US mpg in combined driving.
Some recent work: @ 175,500 km
Full front axle/hub/birfield service including all new seals, bearings, Amsoil synthetic birfield regrease, etc.
Complete front brake overhaul including new rotors, 100 series pads, rebuilt calipers. (thanks Cdan.)
Some recent work: @ 166,200 km
New timing belt and valve lash adjustment
Installed Walbro 6065 lift pump and Amsoil single bypass oil filtration system.
Removed intake manifold and cleaned out EGR grime/crud. Currently the computer controlled EGR system is disabled but can be easily be re-enabled.
Other features:
- Front and rear Lockers
- CDL switch
- Hand throttle/cable
- Heated drivers seat
- Slee skid plate and wiper washer bottle relocation kit.
- dual batteries with 12V starting circuit.
- Bridgestone 265-75/R16 tires with 30,000 miles
- Intake air charge electric heater in place - being in Vancouver I never wired up a switch.
- AirCare (emissions testing) compliant in BC. Always cleanly breezes through testing.
Complete mechanical inspection by prospective buyers welcome. Lots of additional photos available.

This is an original Canadian vehicle and can therefore be imported into the USA. State emission requirements I can't speak to.

Wow Jim, I can't believe you're selling your baby! That is one sweet truck.

Why? Just don't use it much anymore?

You and I last spoke about a year ago, I took notes about the conversion, and I still haven't started mine yet. I'm thinking maybe I'll dive into it this coming summer, time permitting. I'm also exploring the possibility of buying a harness (or two) from Europe. May be a better choice than splicing things.

Good luck with your sale.

Dana

Hi Dana,
I still have the diesel converted Mercedes G-Wagen and the Quigley 4x4 E350 Ford Van, both of which I use much more than the Lexus, which sits in the garage mostly. In addition I have a Mercedes 310 4x4 Van coming from Austria, which is in the mid-Atlantic right now. That is my next project vehicle (to be dieseled and camperized) and is going to dominate the garage for the forseeable future. So, its goodbye to my baby.
Buying the conversion harnesses from Europe sounds like a good thing, unless of course you like the wiring challenge.
Best Regards and Happy New Year

"This is an original Canadian vehicle and can therefore be imported into the USA."

How do you figure?

its not a JDM. its a cdn spec lexus...with a mint oem correct 1HD-FT swapped into it!

i spoke with you briefly @ cruiser days this summer jim. i was in awe as i saw you started up your LX and headed out the parking lot. cant believe you're unloading such a beaut! this engine bay is so pristine and the swap is executed so brilliantly..damn. i wish i had 30 large in my pocket..good luck with your sale!

Sonny, hello again and thanks for your positive comments.
NLXTACY, it is my understanding that because the vehicle was sold new in Canada, and is not an overseas import, it can be sold into the USA in the same way that we in Canada can buy USA legal vehicles, excluding brand new ones. I think it is a NAFTA/Auto-Pact stipulation. Please correct me if this is not the case, anybody? Naturally it is LHD I should add.
California, with its rigorous licensing and emissions requirements could make it challenging to put on the road however.
Jim

I feel the same Sonny, I wish I had the money too.

A friend sent me this when he was looking at a bj

"It is easy, but not all Canadian vehicles can be imported. Go the the US Customs website and look around, the info may be there. If not you can contact them and they will tell you what you need to know.

They will check the VIN against a list, if it's on the list you're in - ATFER they see the emissions stickers. Once they see the emissions stickers you fill out a form and they give you import papers to take to your local DMV to apply for title. Of course you pay the fees and taxes according to your state law. If the emission sticker are not there, or if the certification they are looking for isn't on it - you don't get it in. There may be exceptions for older vehicles, but I don't know for sure."

To import into US, I strongly recommend the use of an RI. They will answer any questions pretty quickly, and navigate the paperwork. I brought a BJ42 in years ago, it was painless with their assistance, and didn't cost much at all.

Bump for a sweet truck with a sweet powerplant!

x2 on what Sheldon said. This set up is sweet. Beautiful truck too! Good luck with the sale Jim.

Ross

There is a deal pending with Raymond, the guy who did the swap for Jim... but it requires the sale of his diesel converted LX450, basically same truck but with 1HD-T with 5 speed if anyone is interested. Yes it's locked too. AFAIK he is asking $26k for the 5spd LX, USD or CAD
Email Raymond for info and pics.
