Sold to a mudder and on its way to a great home.

Most of you will probably recognize this truck, I just bought it off of here two months ago. Envisioned this as a decent truck to load the family up and go to the beach condo in (3.5 hour drive) ... now I think a closer to stock 100 or 200 would suit my needs much better so I'm selling it (along with my 944). Here's the text from the craigslist ad which includes all of the maintenance/modification the PO took care of and the few things I've done since I got it.

1997 Toyota Land Cruiser Collector's Edition (80 Series, no lockers)

I flew up to Charleston, bought this truck and drove it home in December of 2016. It's a great ride, but I'm looking to move to a 100 or 200 series which I feel will be a bit better "family car" for us. I was actually looking for a 100 when I saw this truck for sale on ih8mud and had to give it a shot. The previous owner performed the majority of the recent maintenance and modifications, listed below along with work I've performed. It's extremely clean, including the underbody. Only rust on the vehicle is the dime size spot on the rear tailgate (a ding/knick in the paint).

Replace air filter, replace fuel filter, transmission and transfer case service, front and rear differential service, coolant service, brake fluid service, replace heater control valve, replace left and right front seat transmissions, replace right rear door lock actuator

Swapped in LX450 door panels, ordered new Lloyds Mats, purchased an LX450 center console (not installed), purchased a new wood trim kit (not installed), purchased OEM center diff lock switch (not installed)

The bad:

Fading paint on PS Rear Fender Flare
Occasional rainwater leak onto pass side floor (pretty sure it's a shrunken sunroof seal)
CEL turns on and off occasionally due to the pesky EGR valve
Dime size ding on rear lower liftgate
Ding in rear of roof and taped up area under rear spoiler - doesn't leak
After sharp turns, slight noise from front axle
Passenger rear window regulator will likely need to be replaced
Normal 80 series oil consumption

1997 Toyota Land Cruiser - 80 Series - Slee, OME, Heavy Maintenance

Mud Price: $14.5k

Would be willing to trade "up" to the right 100 series or early (2008-2010) 200. LX models preferred.

You are in Tampa so I assume the AC works well. What is the mileage? Did I miss it.
I am curious about the rear axle sound. Would jump on it if you had a mechanic guesstimate on the axle sound.
Or I could come out and get one also. Would like to see interior pics.

222k miles, no lockers and $14.5k?

I'll update the original post with the interior pics that are in the CL ad... those are from when I bought it two months ago, so they don't show the LX450 door panels. The mileage is right around 222k. The AC does work well, though I need to replace a resistor and plan to do that prior to sale. The AC blows extremely cold, but only has medium high and high fan speeds. I also plan to fix the passenger rear window regulator prior to sale. It's a front axle sound; I'll see if I can get a good video of it. I'll also shoot in depth, hi-def video of the vehicle and upload it but that will take me a few days (busy weekend ahead).

Prior to purchasing, I had Terry from McIntosh Imports in Charleston, SC go over the truck with a fine tooth comb. He does a lot of work on LC's. That's when I had him replace all fluids etc. That was very recent, so my guess is he'll probably remember the truck well. I'm obviously happy to take it to any local shop, dealer etc for a full lookover.

wouldn't mind having it. Just would need to check the axle and see that I'm not surprised driving 1200 miles back to Texas fast.

Understand that; wasn't quite 1200 miles but I flew to Charleston and drove it home without issue ... Wasn't able to do it very fast though, but that's more of a result of not a ton of horsepower, a lot of weight and questionable aerodynamics

I'll take video of the sound... Maybe a mudder will be able to pinpoint the issue. I'll also have a local cruiser shop look into it when I take it to them for the regulator.

just sold my car hauler. But I was guessing 1200 miiles. It is 980 according to mapquest. Anyway, no sweat. I workrd in Souh Beach , Miami for years and made that trip back to Houston so much. I'd drive back to Houston every few weeks in 18 hrs driving an old Cherokee with 450,000 miles.. My girlfrind thought I was crazy

I believe I've responded to all messages; will have time this weekend to shoot video.

I would be on it if I knew what the front axle noise is. Don't want to drive back to Texas with that unknown.

Understood. I'll shoot video this weekend and post it. It's not the kind of noise that would stop me from driving the truck anywhere. If I was going on a multi-state highway trip, the only think I'd bring would be a quart of oil. Happy to hop on a call and chat about it as well.

yeah.....probably is nothing. But driving top speed for to Houston non stop it heat would buld up if there was a problem it might surface on the road.......like that 50 mile bridge in Louisiana. LOL

That would be a bad place for it to happen ... it only makes a noise after a full lock turn (usually to the right). In December I made the drive from Charleston, SC to Tampa, FL with no issue ... it was a little noisy (mainly wind from the sunroof seal) and I got 10mpg but that's to be expected!

Still available? Any more thoughts on the noise? What is causing it? Why do you suggest a quart of oil for the trip?

Yes it's still available. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I'm planning to take the truck in this week if I can find time to get a few things addressed. Also considering putting some 33's on and getting it re-aligned to see how it drives. I say bring a quart of oil because the truck does burn oil and on a long trip, especially at highway speeds, I wouldn't be surprised if it went through a quart every 1500 miles or so.
