So I was going but home from work yesterday and drove buy one of the local Used car lots and saw a pewter 95 coming out of the detail. Wasen't the dealers but a private party rig. Owner had just paid 300.00 for a complete detail.Seats out and all.

Stopped and talked to the guy looking at it. It was his and yes it was for sale. 188K he and his wife had owned it since 2001.

It was purchaced from some guy from CA with a salvage title. It had been in a accident and been left running on its side. So the story is that the engine was replaced at 50K.

The details are kind of fuzzy because the story is from the current owners, not anyone actually involved.

So exterior was nice and clean with no major defects. I drove it and it drove ok. Only drove it 4 blocks. Seats are hammered, looks like they were treated with the wrong stuff. because they all are equaly hammered.

They are asking 6500.00 for a rig with no lockers and a dirty car fax.
And hammered seats. really hammered seats.

Some one give me a idea what its really worth. I was thinking 5k but even that could be too high. If you all think its worth 6500.00 I am gonna pass.

the title by itself wold not scare me, just an opportunity to possibly get a deal, but what really matters is how much damage was created and how it was repaired. without knowing that no idea on value.

You have to consider if you would be happy with it as well. The trashed seats would bother me and I would have to consider the costs of fixing that.

IMO don't do it. Wait for one with a clean or known history. I'd be worried about what had actually been done to it after its accident.

The seats bother me and the cost would be i think 1000K the title means that you would have to be a cash buyer, which I am.

So is it worth 7500.oo NO but I can make a offer.

I wouldn't think so.

For that price you should be able to find one with equiv mileage and lockers w/o a salvage title. You will have to be patient though.

Thats what I am thinking. I will go and look at it. again:) and really check it out it was a litle aquward yesterday standing in front of the used car dealer looking at a rig they wern't selling.

Maybe if I really check it out and it looks good/and they take my offer i can get it cheap. like 4500. 00 they seem motivated

Caveat Emptor.

Depends on what your financial situation is and what plans you have for the truck. If it is gonna be your wife's DD and kid hauler then pass on it. If it is going to get ARB lockers, 37's and be a trail beater then go for it. You can pull the 3rd row and pitch them, then put some cloth seat covers over the trashed leather and you'll never know the difference. $300 tops for the seats.

If your financial situation is that you could replace the engine if needed then that is a risk you can take. If you cannot replace the engine then it might not be such a good deal after all.

Caveat Emptor.

I totally agree, the finances are important, I bought that 94 sight unseen burnt for 800.oo still have the drive train, but its a drum rear, and from what I understand the t cases are different/ tranny different also? But he engine should be the same. I am currently working on swapping cabs on my chevy work truck( not cruiser related but taking up my spare time). So I haven't had time to check the enine on the 94 see if its got good compression.

The harness is shot so I intend to us a good batt, and just jump the starter to figure out if compression is good.

I would run as fast as my legs would carry me.

And here lately I can run pretty damn fast................lol

Find one that you know some history on and get it for a similar or IMO a better deal.

My first car had a salvage title and I drove it for 5 years and over 50k miles BUT I knew who it came from and where the work was done. Not knowing exactly what was screwed up and the ganked up seats would bug me. I honestly think you can get a better deal. Just my .02

I purchased mine with a salvage title for $5000 with lockers, 148,000 miles, and a super clean interior and one owner car fax. The cruiser had been smashed down the side, possibly laid over, but I got a great deal on the body work and paint for $1500. So for $6500 I have a clean cruiser with a salvage title. Without lockers I wouldn't have done the deal, but I was looking for a family wheeling rig.

SO I spent an hour crawling all over it. Under it checked the lights all work checked windows the work sunroof 4 wheel low, seems good.

I a dirt parking lot put it in 4lo and slowly turned steering lock to lock while driving forward and back no clicking from front end.

Then I went back and kept looking there is now frame damage so the theroy of it crashing on its side and some how having major engine damage holds.

But I am not paying 6500.00 mostly because I don't want to borrow any money on a car with a salvage title.

I didn't want to make a low ball offer because I think its worth 6500.00 but I am just scared of the salvage title.

I work with the public and will see the people that own this car on a regular basis. Don't want to offend them.

Anyway I guess this thread can end. I appricate everyones feedback.

That's funny coming from a guy who paid over $14 large for his locked ride.

No, I paid 13K for 98K miles and lockers for a Texas truck that was fully checked over 3 years ago and was in perfect condition. The market was higher and the truck was only 7 years old then.

I paid $8K for Sarah's truck last year w/o lockers and 160K miles, BUT it had just had the Head gasket replaced, fuel injectors cleaned and front axle rebuilt by someone I know and trust. Otherwise, a 96 with 160K miles to me would have been about a $6.5K truck w/o lockers.

A rule of thumb is $1K for evry 10K miles

Whoa... stay away from it.

I got mine, locked, with a clear title, in good condition, and all for $5500...

There are better out there.

If you REALLY want it, offer them $3500, if they say no, who cares. A salvage titled vehicle can be a severe headache, I had one, was supposed to be totally rebuilt and ended up being a huge pain.
