1995 LANDCRUISER PRADO 1kz-te
314k kilometers

Hey all, I was driving my KZJ78, cruising to a red light in neutral, when it suddenly stalled while cruising. at the light, It cranked fine and had enough battery power, but wouldn’t turn over. After pushing it to a nearby parking lot and letting it sit for 15 minutes, it started up fine, and I was able to drive home. Took it to a local shop, but they couldn’t recreate the issue and was no help. It’s been running fine for a week now, driving about 25 miles daily.

The only recent maintenance I’ve done is replacing the glow plugs and an EGR delete about a month ago. I’m thinking it might be a failing fuel injection pump, but since that one time it hasn't happened again, it's tough to diagnose. Has anyone had a similar issue or should i just let it ride until the problem becomes more consistent or fails completely, im at a loss right now?

1° check the fuel filter, and install a new one
2 Test when it fails, if you pump manually (on the fuel filter holder) and try to start it and it does it right away.It is a problem entirely in the injection pump solenoids.or something similar.I also recommend that the engine is "heavy" to start.I suggest installing a good GND connection for the motor, frame, etc.

I would suggest that this is not necessarily a failing pump, but I would focus on the electronic portion of this pump. Check your wiring, especially the grounds and fuel cutoff solenoid. Perhaps take some time to clean and dielectric grease the connections. All the best in chasing down this gremlin.

good test, also if you have a small amount of gasoline in the tank it can vapor lock, stall and not start

I took out the ECU from the glove compartment, i read there are several issues from leaking capacitors, found a burned out section I'm going to replace them and see how she runs.

Ages ago, I had a similar issue with my Mustang. Cold start, no problem, after running awhile, it would not start. Let it sit, and then it would start.

Diagnosed as an internal short in the battery.

New battery and the issue did go away.
