Oh ya, I am super stoked to be back in a Cruiser and one so nice! I am really enjoying it now.

It does need a wax, I was thinking about starting that tonight but man I need to cut myself some slack. Rest up and let my wounds heal before burning much more midnight oil. 🙄

Cheers

Oh ya last thing before I call it a night.

My EGR wrap seems to be working, I can touch the EGR pipe with my hand when the truck is warm. It nearly burns me but doesn’t, without the wrap, it most certainly would burn me good. 🤗

Waxed my front end tonight, it helped but I think it needs a cut and polish before the clear starts going down on the hood. The Cruiser has been sitting out in the weather for at least three if not four years now. Although now it lives under the carport at my house when I am not driving it. 😎

All insured and plated up now too. I did stated value of $20k which I will increase as I do more to it.

Installed my new front wiper arms and blades tonight too.

Little by little it is getting better. 😆

Cheers

The only sticker I will be running on my Cruiser. Although it is getting wrapped with company logo and such.

Took the Cruiser for 70 mile drive last night up over the mountains. It pulled the pass awesome, easily holdIng 65mph or more, speed limit is 65 so I didn’t give it much more.

Cheers

Oh ya had it aligned yesterday and got A/C charged. A/C blows nice and cold, no issues.

I will be installing this and some other goodies this weekend.

Got an off-road trip planned weekend of the 26th.

Drivers outside mirror replaced with new OEM, the old was sad. Sure I could have fixed it but I decided to treat myself to some goodies like this. Still need to install passenger side.

New inner and outer window squeegees installed on drivers door. Originally bought these for the 93 but never installed them so on the 95 they go.

Bought myself a ScanGauge tonight. I am going to make a mount that I will rivnut to the a-pillar.

End of weekend update.

I didn’t want to mention it until I worked it out. I been getting a p0300 code (random misfire) since the first few miles of running the new engine. Today I went at solving it.

I doubted it was my plugs, injectors, leads, dizzy, coil or wiring harness but this is a process of elimination. So today I tore it down, double checked plugs and their gap, tested the ign leads, tested dizzy and it’s air gap, tested coil and tested the crank position sensor as well. I also double checked TB gasket and intake gaskets. I had already backed timing off from 8* to 3* earlier this week.

The dizzy housing I never replaced, regardless it and everything else checked out fine, even the new harness next to the EGR pipe is happy as can be. I even tested one injector (#1) which was spot on the Dr. Injectors sheet.

So next move before checking the ECU was the igniter. Sure enough this is what I found.

Cracked sheath on one wiring going into the igniter which I don’t really think was the problem. The wire is not damaged, just the sheath but I wrapped it up anyways.

Here is what I think was really the problem. Pile of junk aftermarket igniter.

I swapped it out with an OEM igniter after wrapping the wire. I then took it for a good hard 30 mile drive this evening. Up and over the hill to the landfill running it fairly hard. No p0300 yet, which makes me happy.

I did get a p0420 once in traffic on the flats which is the third time I have got that code, it’s a cat code. First time I saw it was yesterday in traffic when I went to get something to eat. I am pretty sure the cats are original and 25yrs old, they look like it anyways and are crusty. I wanted to fix the p0300 first because it could have been causing the p0420. I am 99% sure now the p0300 is fixed. It wasn’t a ground related issue either as all my engine bay grounds are spot on, I even used star washers on them all.

I want to get an otramm exhaust system he is making for the 80, my Cruiser certainly needs it but he is out a ways with an unknown ETA. So I am probably going to toss some cats in this week to see if the p0420 goes away until he is ready to ship his exhaust.

Cheers

So, the saga continues. I will probably order up a new igniter as the one I tossed in, while OEM is old and used. This week I will probably also check torque on the exhaust manifolds since now I have nearly 200 miles on the new engine and they have had plenty of hot/cold cycles.

Yesterday I just wasn’t really feeling like workIng on the engine, but sick of it to be honest. I had contemplated tearing into my rear axle today and rebuilding the hubs plus rear locker. Obviously I decided to deal with this pesky p0300 instead. Happy I did cause like I say it seems to be gone now and was the cheapo aftermarket igniter.

So yesterday I installed my new JVC head unit. After only 100 miles I was already sick of no music! Come to find out drivers door speaker is blown, not really surprised as all the speakers are junk and old. Also the old single din head unit wasn’t working simply due to a blown fuse in the back of it. Who cares though cause I tossed it in the trash! I have always and I mean always ran single din head units in my Cruisers. So kind of stoked on this new school double din JVC. Although I should have got one that had a USB port in the back not just the front. Oh well, don’t care, I got music!

Also fixed the trans selection light yesterday, it was just a bulb.

I also got all the glue mess and funk off the trans shifter surround, then installed it and the console. I also de-wood grained the heater/stereo surround and driver master switch. One piece (or two!) at a time, de-woodgraining sucks! For those who don’t know, heat gun very carefully and a wax/greaser remover With a plastic scrapper is the trick. New tcase lower rubber boot and upper boot as well. I have a new trans gear shifter handle, posted a pic of it earlier in the thread. At some point I will install it and get a new switch for the power/2nd mode. Probably test the switch first but pretty sure it’s toast, it was completely gummed up from spilled sodas and cleaning didn’t seem to fix it. The 2nd switch does work but I can tell the power doesn’t because it does nothing when driving the Cruiser, it should change kickdown of the trans and rpms.

Oh ya, installed new OEM drivers sun visor as mine was wasted. Super stoked on that, it rocks hard! Also installed a new rear wiper blade today, new diverter valve to come because mine is toast and sprays front when I try to run just the rear. I did get the rear washer working by de-clogging it but it still sprays front when I use only the rear, the diverter valve is obviously toast. 🙄

Also, zero issues with cooling, I have yet to crack 191* even running up mountain passes with the A/C on. Cooling system is dialed! 😎

Obviously I still need to make my mount for the scan gauge, right now it’s just tossed up on the dash close to where it’s final resting place will be.

My check list is still pretty long, I have not installed the passenger seat or glove box yet in case I needed to deal with the ECU which it appears I don’t.

More to come!

Cheers

Just went out and ran the truck tonight after work about 125 miles down the highway. Ran it up to about 85mph but still not taking it over 3,000rmps. I am still breaking it in, hit 300 miles on the new engine tonight.

Cruiser runs nice down the highway, I do get some vibes around 82+mph, otherwise none. Tires or drivelines is what I am thinking for now.

No codes in several days, p0300 is gone, p0420 has only come up twice in the last 150 miles. Truck needs exhaust & cats, I decided to hold off on cats for at least another week or two.

Cheers

Nearly 400 miles on it now.

Got my new seat belt installed, passenger seat back in, glove box in, sun visor installed, RHS outer mirror on, washed all windows twice over, adjusted hood and tightened up my rear bumper wings. Discovered it still has to OEM windshield in it, it has a lot of chips though.

I didn’t take many pics, just enjoyed the trail and Cruiser. I did take chassis hits and it needs some goodies soon. Super cold up top last night with a lot of wind so went to bed early.

Cheers

Got this in today, was just about to install it before a friend stopped by.

See if I can get them in before I call it a night.

Oh ya, washed it this evening after a weekend of wheeling.
