Unfortunately the time has come to sell my wife’s 80. We’ve had a good run at being a two 80 family, but alas, my wife wants something smaller like a Rav4, CRV, or maybe even an Accord or Camry  It makes me sad to see it go, but as they say happy wife= happy life.

It’s a white, 1993 FZJ80 with factory e-lockers and 234xxx miles. We’ve owned it since 1/2011 and I was planning on owning it until I get a real job in 2016, so I did a lot of PM to help meet that goal. It’s been a reliable rig and the engine and transmission are solid. I have not had a single CEL or EGR issue since I’ve owned it. I believe it spent most of its life in Missouri. However, there undercarriage and frame are surprisingly solid other than minor surface rust and is actually much cleaner than my 97. I added some pics below showing all the imperfections I could find. There doesn't appear to be any rocker or panel rust, but there are a few pinpoint chips detailed in the photos. There also looks like a bit has formed on the bottom crease of the front doors. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country today.

Known Issues:
Exhaust leak just before the catalytic converter (doesn’t cause any CEL codes)
Front locker sometimes takes a while to engage.
Rear driveline U-joint needs replacing (I have a new one but I haven’t got around to replacing it)
Windshield crack near the top (this will be replaced before it sells)
Tie rod ends need replacing.
Intermittent issues with PS front window motor.
No 3rd row seating.
Crack in PS tail light, but does not leak water.
Cargo carpet is rough.
Few small dings
It not showroom perfect but overall it’s in decent shape for a 20 yr old vehicle. Most people are surprised when they find out it’s a 1993.

The good:
Head Gasket Replaced (preventatively) 3/2011 @ 220K using all OEM parts from Beno.

The head was sent to a reputable shop in Spokane, WA recommended by Idahodoug and they steam cleaned it, checked the tolerances, did a valve grind and replaced all the seals with OEM. I’ve been running Chevron Delo 400 15W-40 oil since I’ve owned it.

While I was in there I did the following:
Rebuilt starter (it has the heavier duty OEM starter)
Alternator bushings
PHH (silicone)
All radiator hoses replaced with OEM and the rest of the cooling hoses replaced with high grade silicone hose.
New spark plugs
Crank seal and oil pump seal
T-stat with gasket
Transmission fluid replacement
New OEM belts

I also rebuilt the front axle using all OEM parts including trunion and wheel bearings. The birf on one side was clicking so I replaced them with used birfs from a ~130K rig. The PO had replaced the front rotors with OEM and 100 series pads at around 212K.

I completely overhauled the A/C system 8/2011 using all OEM Denso parts from Coolstream including new compressor, expansion valve, drier, replaced all the seals and filled with fresh 134A. I also replaced the AC belt pulley with a new OEM pulley and filled the fan clutch with 15kcst silicone.

Other misc upgrades:
ARB winch bumper
OME Medium Coils with bilstein shocks
Landtank Caster correction plates
285/75R16 (4) Treadwright BFG A/T’s with approximately 5K miles.
Scion radio
Specter Tuff Duck front seat covers
Wood grain steering wheel, but the original will be included.
Replaced the DS front window motor.

The vehicle is located in Tucson, AZ. Asking $5500 OBO. More pics upon request.

I'm thinking you should keep this one and let's talk about the LX... ;)

:lol: Honestly I don't think I'll ever sell the LX. The thing that kills me is the 93 has a cleaner frame and axles than the unlocked LX. My original plan was to swap the axles down the road, I hate to see it go. With the recent HG/valve job, the 93 also runs better and barely uses any oil compared to the LX.

Damn,

Good price for what that is....

You sure you don't want to magically find my 60 in the yard and get your
wife a nice used subie or honda with your tax refund?

I miss my white 80......

GLWS!

Thanks. I'd love a 60, but the Mrs won't let me get a second cruiser until we have more room to store it in a few years. I could just see the Mrs face if I swapped her 80 for a 60. ;)

Still available?

I have a couple interested parties trying to figure out delivery logistics. There is a gentleman in UT that might drive down and get it, but if he doesn't its still available. I'll keep this thread updated.

Sale pending.....

Sold.....It makes me sad though, I really didn't want it to sell, but I told my wife I would give it a shot. Its very unsettling to see a cruiser leave the flock. I'm already having sellers remorse and it hasn't even been gone for an hour.

But all is not lost, as a new cruiserhead was born tonight.

I hope he grows to love it as much as I did. Enjoy your new cruiser!

Thank for all your help. Probably one of the best buying experiences ever.

I'm sure I will grow to love it even more than I already do. Can't wait to drive it back to CO and enjoy the benefits of being and LC owner.

Again thank you! It will be treated well.
