Ken,
Quick question, I assume the original LX badges were stick on as I don't have any holes on the apron for them?
If not stick on, then I guess there are not original ?

Yes the badge was a stick on to the side panel. I am not sure how you local Toyota parts dealer is over there but when I was looking for my LX badges I managed to track down a set which are genuine Toyota of a BJ73 (Bundera) which are identical to the 40 series one. I paid $38.98 AUD each for mine and just ordered them through Toyota. Part number is TO-7544160240. I think what Toyota did is when they released the Bundera in 1985 straight after the demise of the 40 series they must have realised they had a heap of the badges left over and called the Bundera an LX as well. As you can see from the pic my original 40 series LX badge is the top one and the one that I ordered is at the bottom.

Thats great Ken, have called local Toyota already and they have them @ 26 Euro each including taxes which works out around $38.15 AUD , how close is that !!!!!!!!
Slight issue, one available next Monday, the second one, the first week in September !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in no hurry and as they are stick on, its not a problem , will leave them off altogether unit September..

Been to the upholster today with front seats, drivers side leather shot, will post a teaser after this which I am sure you will get straight away

Thanks again.

Dropped my front seats into the upholster today to get leather repaired, sadly no rear ones. His name is Christy and he is a real character who has been doing this for 40 years and specialises in classic cars and bikes. He said that he had never seen the fabric before and guessed it was specially commissioned by Toyota back then. He said he had a similar issue with another cloth years ago that was on a car that was sub 10,000 manufactured, he could source the cloth but with a minimum quants order of 1,000 square metres and was not economically viable, in fact, only two or three of these car seats ever came through his doors? He has a beautiful old style workshop at his house and some of his kit was built in the 50"s. He still uses a mid 50's Singer that can stitch through 1/2 inch ply (I think) he explained that back in the day, the fabric was stitched directly and through the ply.

Teaser: See anything unusual/strange about the first photo, apart from Christy (only joking) ?????

Those seats look in great condition mate. I heard there was someone on here that works between Aust and China who says that he could have gotten a one off run done a few years back for about $4-$5 per meter which I thought would have been great as I reckon that there would be enough of a market to on sell it and recoup you money or even make a few dollars. He said the same thing that they would only do a 1000mtr run as it was a one off.

As for something strange in the first pic I must be missing something mate. This only thing I can see is why does an upholster need a welder in his workshop.

Never noticed the welder, he must get bored with the fabric?? Have a closer look at the fabric area of cover between both seats ?

A few questions with photos,
1. Are original head rests leather as per seats, mine are plastic?
2. Is that an original AM radio, the Sony is now gone.
3. As you can see, unfortunately, for some reason the PO just cut the on the drivers side, I have be looking at just buying some brown vinyl to blent in, have also been looking at some options like TrueFit in OZ , I e -mailed them model etc and they said they can supply for that model in moulded brown vinyl, has anybody used this product? They also can supply the vinyl per metre which would suit me better as I am not trowing away the passengers side?

Thank you.

And definitely going to change the yellow on drums and disks ????
Please :D Hi temp calliper paint is what you want. 1 x rattle can ought to do it.

Go no windshield hold down hooks IMO. White will look good against the rolling green ;) And I'd trim the length of that third wiper rather than have it crooked.

1. Pretty sure it's actually an expanded foam covered in some kind of vinyl. But yes, stock I believe.
2. Yes. Most fella's chucked 'em.
3. Wish I could help. An original floor mat might not be too much of a budgetary stretch?

My guess would be 1) For fun and 2) to fix seat frames people bring in. Im sure older seats once he tears into them he has probably had to fix frames that either rusted out or just broke.

Can definitely see it being one of those things that doesn't get used, but is rather nice to have on hand when he needs it

Agree , black or grey on brakes, no hooks, will check the wiper before i cut . They say the fields are greener far away, right, as long I am not rolling down those hills upside down ???;)

Then it'd be white against the green, blue, green, blue..

Reckon the same, you see anything else strange in photo ??

Thanks, can you still buy original mats?

Question re rivets on top over windshield, It looks like the these are alluminum rivets as Awl TEQ suggested, see photo.
Can they be sanded down and painted as suggested or have they a structural function?
Either way, guess they need to be watertight ?
Has anyone done this?

Looks like the build month was 07/84, the PO had told me 02/84 ?
Looks like the 3B was 04/82, hard to read, will clean up.
Nice touch from the body shop with frame number, guess it will mud over and rust pretty quick, but looks cool for now?
