How did the rolled 83 look?

I wouldn't know to be honest. He called me this morning & said a gentleman by the name of Wiley, from Kentucky contacted him last night & offered to buy it sight unseen, and would wire him the money first thing Monday. He accepted the offer, pending payment, so he cancelled my appointment.

He did say that, if you were willing to back out of the deal, he would be happy to sell it to me & keep it local here in Boulder. So, would you be willing to take $500 just to walk away from the deal? I could paypal you your 500, then just buy the truck from him. I figure if I ever find one in my price range outside of this area, I would have to pay to ship it, so I would still be about even on the deal that way.

Alternatively, I was 2nd in line on the 84 BJ42 you bought from Mad Marc. Would you keep this truck, but sell me that one? I could help with shipping & such of this truck if you wanted to go that route, as I work in logistics & could work you a good deal.

I'd also be open to some sort of trade deal as well possibly. I've got two FJ40 projects here right now, that I was planning to sell if I got this truck.

Any interest?

Thanks,
Abe

If it is any consolation I offered him $4000 and he said he would think about it but he had a guy coming to look at it. I didn't know who it was but I did know that the first person to look at it would buy it so I told him I would take it for full asking price. $5000 seemed to be a steal. I am going to do a frame up on that 84 but it is a long term project so I drive it like it is for now. This one is for a buddy that has been trying to find one. I will speak with him tonight and see what he says. It was on Craigslist so I wasn't trying to snake it from a mudmember. I will be in touch. Pm me your phone number.

Did you ask him what the story was on the roll? Can't see an obstacle in that pic that would cause a 3/4 roll. Also pretty coincidental that its a garage queen for 12 years then first time (presumably) out he rolls it.

His friends convinced him to go to top of mountain for a picnic with his wife. Short story he picked a bad line, hit clutch instead of brake and its all downhill from there. Im excited for I believe it will make a nice fj for my buddy. Lots of pics back up his story. Cool thing is they have the whole roll on gopro courtesy of the vehicle behind him.

Hey guys. I am new to the forum. I just purchased this beauty and she will be delivered to me this week. Having the privilege of owning an FJ40 has been a lifelong dream.

That has Mass plates. Was it for sale in Mass?

There's one in central jersey that's a basket case. The front was all smashed in from what looks like kissing a tree. It was sold as a package deal with 2 other 40's I believe.

Here's another 83 I ran across on Vintage Off Road website - Sold

I sold that to Mushro 13/14 years ago. There's a story with that truck.

Feel free to expound on that.

Bought it being told that the valves were loud and didn't drive it after it was serviced as they were told it had a bad head.

When it showed up it was noisy. Popped off the valve cover and there was no oil anyplace up top. I beat my head for weeks and couldn't figure it out. So I dropped it off at Toyota (my work). They tore it down to the block looking for an obstruction in the oil galleys and found nothing. What they did find was the gap to be correct and that baffled them. When it was re assembled nothing changed.

One day the area rep was in and was looking at it as he was a tech in the 70/80's. I explained everything to him and he remembered one case where someone spun the rocker arm shaft 180* causing the oil passage to be blocked.

Sure enough that's what had happened. Spun it back and it drove likes a dream.

I believe that one had 42,000 miles on it.

Body work, body work, body work but I told him I was gonna snag the dash out of it for a finders fee. ;). He don't need an 83 dash. ;). I will send lots of pics when it gets here.

Careful. The cruiser gods get angry when a Cruiser gets abducted from the west and sent out to the lEast coast.... :-)

The Doors put it best: "the west is the best."
