177,630 km, 3B, has been sitting outside for 2 yrs started every few months. Not sure about the LX although it has the 3 wipers the back seats like a 40. VIN NUMBER IS BJ42005553

Others here are way more qualified on price opinions. It has the rear sliding windows, no roll bar inside so LX it probably is. The rust isn't bad from what I can see. The mileage is good. How much do u love it? Start low and let him work u up a little.

Yep I love it. Loving it more and more now. Thanks.:bounce2:

I have owned two BJ42 LXs and maybe just me, but the proper zebra striped seats are a big part of owning that model truck. Especially the uber-cool rear seat arrangement. Without them it looks like any old BJ42, excepting the triple wipers.

If in Oz, I say owner is asking too much. There was an LX on ebay a while back for $5500, 5-speed and AC. In US, about right, maybe.

I agree with Dave.

You are honestly looking at a $5-6K max purchase for that rig. You still have to import and all that happiness.

Plus, I want to say, that is a good bit of surface rust (under carriage) and rust on the body for the asking price. Unless prices and availability has dramatically changed, I know you can do better for the same price range.

Prices for old cruisers are creeping steadily upwards. I dont know how much they want but they will get $8-9K+ for an LX here.
Apart from the surface rust,it looks pretty clean underneath.
Whats under that repaint is what I would be thinking about

 Prices have certainly gone up over the last 5 years. I bought mine in Aussie for 3K $ aus and she was in slightly better shape than that - so try and get him down unless if you have already lost your heart on it because they are still the coolest of all them 40 ser trucks :D

The truck is in the north eastern U.S., it is from New Zealand has been here since 08. Have not seen it in person yet, the seller is out of town. I will be seeing it and driving it soon. I'm hoping its an LX.I would be happy to get it for around 11k if it runs good and the rust isn't too bad.
Wouldn't be restoring it but making it a good reliable DD and ridding it of any rust.
My problem is I'm too excited about it.

$8K tops
the rust is there.
the mileage is good
the seats can have the original covers reinstalled

but it will need work, probably 4 wheel drums, 5 speed or 4 speed? PS or not? no AC.

you asked...

4speed, no AC, power steering yes. 8k would be even better. Thanks crushers.

That is exactly the amout i would have said 8-9k, 11-12k once in North America, but not more for me (because of RHD).

if it is without PS and 5 speed, then i'd agree with crusher 8-9k. But it is a 1983 and should technicly have them.

Frame looks fine but body might be worse then it shows.

eleblanc,
it was only in North America (and MAYBE Europe) that recieved the 5 speed and discs.
Japan, Oz, NZ, Africa, SA all got 4 wheel drum and 4 speeds, 5 speed was an option.

one thing i have learned over the last few years is ... what we have learned about Cruiser from living in Canada has very little relations with the rest of the world cruiser specs.

Really, we learn every day.

Negative, front disc brakes standard on Aussie BJ42LXs. Ditto for PS, at least for 1982 and beyond. Again, from Oz market LXs. I have brought in 1982 and 1983 BJ42LXs. Both had factory front discs and PS standard. The 82 was 4-speed, PS, front DB. 83 had a 5-speed, PS, front DB. Aussie people have told me that 83 and 84 BJ42LXs in Oz all came with 5-speeds, not certain on that. But they def had front discs and PS.

Mine is 11/83 Aussie spec with 5 sp , discs front , FF rear, large drums rear, PS and A/C that I suspect was an AM option.

I got a 7/83 BJ42 granted not the LX but with PS and front DB. No AC. Also no engine, electrics rear jump seats and a bit of rust for AUD 2000. Almost done with it, put a 84 2h in and looking forward to driving it for the first time in 2.5 years. Aus model
