It's time to let my FJ40 LX move on to a new owner but I have a dilemma as to how best to sell it and where best that would be. The vehicle is LHD but it lives in the U.K. where we are RHD. I know the best prices are to be had over in the States. Auction houses here in the UK are talking with No Reserve which is a bit scary. I've had the vehicle valued by a reputable classic car company as well as my insurers to be in the region of £25K+.
Any advice from you guys who might have had similar experience.

Very briefly:
1982 ex-Saudi Arabia.
Owned since 1983, brought to the UK in 1985.
150,000kms
Approx 6 yrs used on the road, rest of time stored in garage.
95% original
Recent repaint, new brakes, spring shackles, various other work.
Very rare Fairey Over Drive + Free Hubs
History from 1983.
ALOT of pics from 1983 - 2017.

Regards,

John

I love the interior of the LX. Good looking 40. Why did you paint it? Also I thought all LX had 3 windshield wipers?

As it is LHD your best bet may be to sell it in Europe, the title transfer should be pretty clean pre-BREXIT as well.

I'd be surprised if importing it to the US netted that much more, if any.

Both Holland and Germany seem to be a good market for 40s.

Purty cool!! Wish we were talking the canadian conversion rate!!!!
Good Luck with your sale.

as far as I'm aware the differences were the LX has got power steering, the striped upholstery, single front seats and the split seats at the rear, the interior body trim is in brown, including the floor mat.

why is the carpet cut in the back on the fender? Any rust at all?
I would like to discuss buying 425 516 8513

I've owned this FJ40 for 34 years and I can honestly say that I can't remember why I cut the carpet. As for rust, where there has been some minor surface rust it's been cleaned, treated and repainted, a couple of small areas on the rear had repairs. This vehicle is not in the US, it's in the UK and is being auctioned at a classic car auction in the UK, H and H Classic car auctions on the 29th March.

Not interested in selling it now? I believe shipping to the US from UK is $2K...... The auction a no reserve auction?

I'm happy to go through the auction process, there is a reserve. If it doesn't sell for the price I want then it'll go back into storage for another few years. With the US $ strong against the UK £ it'll be a good buy for someone in the States, even with the additional shipping cost. If someone does buy it they'll be getting a really good example of an FJ40 but that's just my opinion.

Yes, I want to buy it...that is what I am saying. What do you need to avoid the auction and consider selling to me?

I'm sorry that didn't sell for you at auction. Maybe you managed to do a deal afterwards. For those of us that have an LX it is interesting to see how the market values them. I wonder if it had been RHD whether it would have sold, or whether, as a LHD it would have gone for more at a US auction? For anyone else you can follow the bidding at 2.07.30 on YouTube
