Another day...

Well.... today was not productive as one could hope but that was mainly due in part to me needing to get some metal fished out of my eye.... TWICE. Now before anyone gets on their safety soapbox...I WAS WEARING SAFETY GLASSES. haha
My recommendation for anyone in this situation is to go straight to the Optometrist vs. the Hospital...the Doc at the hosp didn’t get it done the first time and for a lot more than my trip to the Eye Doc.

Back to cruisers...
After all that fun we went out to my parts rig and pulled the axels off and swapped the BJ axels. Went fairly smooth but did take some time. Also took off the brake lines and springs.

We weren’t able to sandblast the frame due to weather but we did get it into the Southside Carwash...haha its ok folks, this is a tame rural community. It should make tomorrows sandblasting easier.

We also had to help my buddy move his LV body out of the paint booth. I tried to explain the priorities and that he needed to get HIS project out of HIS paint booth so I can start mine. haha We moved it to another guys shop who has a lift so he can place it back on the chassis. GOOD TIMES>>>

Hoping tomorrow to sandblast the frame and paint along with sandblasting the axels. They had POR15 on them but the crap was coming off on places and I wanted to stick with using epoxy primer and the same single stage urethane paint as the frame.

Here are a few pics from today...

latest...

Diesciple - haha Matt drove the thing for me when it was picked out since i was out of country at the time and it ran. said it was alright but smoked a little when it was first started but went well after that...put put put ....ordered motor mounts from CDAN tonite.

Hawkdriver - Thanks man its good to be back. The powersteering doesnt appear to work since there is some diesel 'chub' and the battery supports in the way. The saginaw system puts the sector all the way forward on the frame on the inside. It might work but you would have to modify the trays?

CDan is your man, great guy.

If you need anything funky like diesel parts give me a call and I will try to help you out.

Idea for power steering if you do not go Saginaw, I did a little thread on a BJ42 which I install powersteering using mini truc parts.

Good to see the build getting started.

Been thier done that, metal in your eye is really not very comfortable.

Had the doc grind it off my eye once, it makes me wear full face shields and sometimes North full face maskes with tear offs.

Worst ever was acid from some type of rust stop product, the emerg guys had a drip in my eye for 2 hours.

Also hit a coal chisel and have a piece of metal in my bisept, saw it on the X-ray but doc got worried about cutting tendans so they left it in.

All that accidental stuff aside, looking forward too the build.

Last pic question.

What kind of springs are those on the rear axle. The ones with all the 4's on them. I have a set at the house that look identical with the same markings and have been wondering who made them as they are not stock.

Any ideas?

man, i'm soooo paranoid about getting stuff in my only good eye since i just went blind in my left eye in the last 6 months (unrelated to crap getting in it). and the other day i was pulling off a battery cable and a chunck of the corrosion whatever that had built up around the terminal flew off and got me right in the eye. yup, that was uncomfortable to say the least. gotta get a face shield...

Yup, had metal flake embedded into my eye too, luckily not on my lens and the doc got it out. Also had my ear pierced with a piece of wire wheel, that one was cool. Usually get stuck with a wire in the stomach now and then. Safety gear is a MUST, but you can still have accidents.

The acid story reminds me of that guy who got POR on his junk, hahahaha.

Safety first kids.

Hi All:

Wow! That is quite the project, taking it all the way down to the frame!

Looking forward to seeing more pics as it progresses!

Best wishes on the project!

Another day at it....

Got the frame sandblasted and started on a few other items. Had a few issues with the sandblaster but nothing that wasnt expected. It actually went pretty well. The frame was in better shape than I could have hoped. I love sandblasting, I wish everyone could sandblast!!!!

Also got the frame primed and painted. Used an epoxy primer and single stage polyurethane paint. I was really happy with the results.
Had an enormous amount of help from Matt today. I know he has his own project going on but he helped me out with the painting. Wealth of knowledge there guys....even if he plays the fat dumb kid its all just a ploy.

We made it out to his LV as well and got a little work done...took us late into the evening but still accomplished something.

Here is a few pictures of us loading up the sand and air compressor, sandblasting, and painting.

Another good day.....

Travis

TrollHole - the springs on this rig is a 4" MAF Safari Kit that came with my parts rig.

HawkDriver...how do you get POR on the junk? (nevermind i dont want to know)

Sweet! It is going nicely! Think you might get an itch do do a FJ62 when you get down south :) j/k my rig has more rust than yours!

keep us posted and dont forget the more pics the better!!

Been told you can hit the tub with a 5 pound ball peen hammer as hard as you can and will not damage the tub???

are you going with the ps setup on this? if so, would'nt it have been a good idea to weld the plates on before you painted the frame?

Just guessing George, the BJ has two factory battery trays and you would have to either move one tray completely on the drivers side or hack a big chuck of it out to run Sagina.

If he goes somewhat factory he will maintain his tray setup.

Just a guess.

you're right rob. i just heard from matt and i guess the diesel just does'nt lend itself to the sag conversion due to clearance issues. i'll have to keep that in mind if somebody else wants to buy a set of sag style ps plates from me.
