Wow, nice pig. Good luck on the sale!

Holy ****, I can't believe all the nice Pigs for sale these days...

If I weren't fully committed to mine, I would be interested in this.

Are those rear belts factory? Could I see a close up of how they mount to the C pillars?

Hmm, I'm not sure if they're factory. I will take some photos this weekend and post them up for you.

i just want to know if this fj55 has az tittle and plates?

It has a clean AZ title. It's not registered at the moment.

This is a gorgeous piggie. I wish I had the funds!!!! ugh

I'm assuming its been repainted at some point as the top is white vs brown like factory. any other work done to it?

I was told by the previous owner that it was original, no paint or body work. I am by no means an expert, so if you're saying the white top it not original, then it must have been repainted like you said. I took the previous owner to be an honest guy, so if that's the case, he was probably misinformed like myself.

Anyone know this piggy or its owner? I am interested in it for a daily driver. Post or send me a private Mud message or email shmukter@pa.metrocast.net. Thanks, Gary S

Hi Gary,

If you head over to the "clubhouse" section and then "Copper State Cruisers", the member "FJ40LVR" has met me and can tell you about this pig's condition. He and I don't know each other, but coincidentally, he stopped to help me on the side of the road when the alternator went out this past weekend. :)

So I just had to look at this truck and being a little over 100 miles away I made an appointment w/ Ian and drove up Sat am. Wow, is all I can say. It is the best 55 I have seen in person. It has a few minor body issues but they can all be solved really easily. The coolest part- the ambulance doors are in phenomenal shape (need weather strip, no big deal). Engine runs really tight and shifting through the gears is solid. The only downside is the steering is typical for the age and needs a little love before a long trip. The parking brake does not work and a few leaks were noted on the undercarriage. But the truck is real solid and being a 1977 has really good bones with a solid 2F, power brakes, LOCKING steering column, and fine spline birfields. Typical 55 door issues with hinge failure/cracks DON'T exist on this truck. It needs a good home, I just can't bite into a 55 at this time.

This pig is SOLD as of today to what I believe will be a GREAT home. I will let the new owner decide if he wants to post and reveal himself as the buyer.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and I believe the new owner will be VERY happy with this rare 55. I am sad to see the pig leave, but take comfort in the fact that it's going to a true 55 enthusiast.

Thanks.

New home for a neat piggy

Well, the 55 is on the back of a transporter on its way to a new home in Pennsylvania. Can't wait to drive this unique and relatively rust free 55, it's gonna replace a 60 that I had been using as an occasional driver and hauler. Other than driving it I have no concrete plans for the truck- except for trying to get used to being behind the wheel of a RHD vehicle! That will be a new experience for me.

If the truck reaches me unscathed from its 2300 mile journey and is as good as Ian represented it I will be a happy new owner. Gary S

New pig in the garage

My old orange and white 78 is jealous- there's a new pig in the garage and the "creamsicle" (daughter jenna named her) is out in the street. Met the transporter twenty miles from home this morning and drove the piggy off the upper ramp. It's pretty much exactly what Ian represented it to be- thankfully. Started right up and drove home without a glitch, no stalling, no grinding of gears. Did some cleaning, some checking, and found some surprises!!!!

Found that the threaded holes for mounting the license plate are spaced differently than the 7" spacing on my PA plate. Hmmmm drove home with one bolt holding the plate on and had to drill another hole in my plate. No sweat.

This thing has a hand throttle and a locking steering column. Never saw either on a 55. The speedometer is incremented only in KMH no MPH. The rear seat shoulder harnesses are also new to me.

The tires have a bad vibration at 90KMH (55MPH). I have a set of brand new tires in the garage mounted on older 4Runner rims. Went to install them and had a real shock- this thing has drum brakes in the front. Not only that, but the backspacing on the 4Runner wheels was insufficient to clear the tie rod ends. I thought the wheels were regular newer 4Runner wheels but they are 16" split rims!!!!! Wow. Need to get a pair of thin wheel spacers so I can mount the new gums. The split rims have 7.50x16 tires on them- they're about 4" taller than the 235/75 tires I want to mount. Bet the truck will feel a lot peppier with the shorter tires mounted!!!!!

The lack of rust on this truck is amazing, can't say much better than that. Has the original jack under the seat and an interesting sticker with instructions for engaging and disengaging the 4WD. The dash is extremely clean as is most of the interior.

Plan for now is to drive the new rig, feel her out a bit and see what she's gonna need. Stay tuned. Comments welcome to be sure- this is the first right hand drive vehicle I've ever owned or even driven!!! Gary S

Sounds a lot like my aussie rig. Did you get a full floater rear end?

Piggy

Eric- yes it has a full floater rear. I haven't been underneath it yet but from what I did see it is pretty much rock solid.

Do you have stereo mounted in your dash? This has a non-operable AM radio that i am going to replace. I had to grind away part of the defrost steel ductwork behind the radio opening in my US 55 when I installed the stereo in the dash- wonder if this one will require as much attention?

Eric- any other differences between the Aussie and US versions? I was told that this truck was sold new in Australia and spent some time in Africa before coming to the states. Before being owned by Ian in Arizona it was owned and registered in Florida.

I actually thought I might have seen this truck on EBay awhile back- but am not sure. Anyone out there know anything about the truck? Gary S

Pics please. :)

I'm running old 33 x 12.5 BFG Muds on 8" rims now, but I may buy new 33 x 10.5 BFG Muds and mount them on my stock rims (5.5") for daily use and keep the others for trails... Anyhoo, would love to see what the new shoes look like on your pig.

Congrats on the purchase, by the way. Cheers, Carlos.
