So I just received my DD VHX gauge cluster for my 77 40. I ended up having to use a small file to reduce the thickness of the brass keyway provided with tang that slips into the speedo housing. This was fairly simply with a small gun file since the supplied tang is brass. My question for those who installed this, did you use any of the washer/collars or felt that came with the OEM cable? Attached is a picture of the OEM speedo cable that I removed from the 40. Large washer was toward the nut, then the felt and then two smaller washers toward the speedo housing. Can the DD adapter be screwed directly to the housing without any of the hardware pictured?
