Since you purchased the Proffitts adapter did you measure the depth for the fuel sender to include the thickness of the adapter? How thick is the adapter?

I am going to go the same route as you have for a stock 1971 FJ40 fuel tank.

Thanks

I do not have the adapter yet so I can not say how thick it is . I will
Report back Sat after I have it and everything hooked up

Ok. The Proffitts adapter arrived today. . It is 3/8 thick. I do not see this as any issue at all if anything I will have just a little more fuel left when on empty .

I did some research and found this ring adapter for the tank that Proffitt’s Land Cruisers sells, as well as this fuel sender that can work with the GM preset of the DD.

Hope this can help someone!
well i got everything installed and no luck It is either Pegged full or empty . I put it on the gm 0-90 setting and it just says empty when i know there is only 5 gal in the tank . Are you just hooking the Red to the Fuel Signal and the blue to the fuel ground ?

update: I fought with the factory sender but despite all my efforts could not get it to work. Ended up getting a 8" KUS sender (about $50) which is rated for 240-30 ohms. The bottom of the sender is a little less than an inch from the bottom of the tank. I was concerned because it rest just along the side/ edge of the lower sump so the float doesn't quite make it to the bottom of the sender stalk. I tested it a few times and 1.5 gallons puts the needle off empty and with 4 gallons its right at 1/4 tank so that seemed pretty reasonable to me.
I did have to drill new mounting holes. It comes with a staggered 5-hole screw pattern which of course, doesn't match up but the mounting plate is heavy gauge so I just drilled to accommodate the tank pattern.

Which sender are you using? The one recommended by Proffit that they sent is the GM 33–240 ohms, so you have to use the GM 250 preset on the DD. Also, check your connectors, wiring, and ground—the ground wire is very important.

I ordered the one from amazon and it says 0-90. I have the reddish brown wire direct to the fuel signal. On the control box and the blue to the ground .

Also, check the ohms of the sender you have—whether it is 0–90 or 90–0 ohms—and use the correct preset from the DD. It will be either GM90 or 63VET. I'm not sure which link you used for this Amazon sender.

Hope this can help you.

I have this sender. 7 inch

I have the blue wire going to the ground on the control box. And the brown to signal. I do not have any other grounds.

Wondering if I should have got the 8 inch one 😳. I know the tank has 5 gal in it but it’s reading empty I didn’t think to measure. Ugg. I don’t want to take my seats back out 🤬

For anyone doing this in the future. If you get the Proffitts adapter. You will need to get 5 M4 screws also. The adapter is 3/8 thick. These are the things no one ever talks about 👍. 7 inch. GM 0-90 🤔

They recommended a 7-inch size.

Well I think that is why I am frustrated. I got the 7 inch. I got the adapter. I hooked up the 2 wires. I have it set on the Gm90
Setting. And it just reads empty 🙄. I will
Fill the tank tonite and check to see if that does anything . Should I have kept the oe ground wire that goes to one of the screws connected 🤷‍♂️
