The plan was to "carefully" remove them so that they could be thoroughly cleaned and reused. Unfortunately they were so well installed that they "became" too damaged to reuse.
They were being stored in a garbage bag to protect them from anymore staining, in the hopes of possibly restoring them in future. unfortunately the garbage man apparently didn't see the value in them and thoughtlessly placed them into the back of his truck.

seats are just about in.
i had to reverse the rear mounting brackets for more leg room. paint is drying on the adapter pieces.
waiting on a new ignition switch to put the steering column back together. manual steering about wrapped up as well.
on to the spare tire carrier next.

brian your rig is looking great bro!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and that's all i have to say about that.
working on a little brown bleed through on the upper hatch....i didn't get the memo that lead is a bad idea to fill holes with...opps

filled the hole in.
figured it has too much caster angle now without power steering....in addition to a another little problem.
cast alum shims are just a bad idea.
the drivers side, being soaked in power steering fluid for almost 20 years are in like new condition. the passenger side being much dryer were severely corroded, and swollen up enough to actually bent the pad on the axle upward.

after having read a few posts on ccot's soft parts i decided i better take a look at my fuel fill hose....
i bought the steel repo tank from them and i'm pretty sure a new repo fuel filler neck and i know the rubber hose came from them as well.
this is what a two year old hose from them looks like.
it wasn't completely failed yet, but it wasn't far from it. found a suitable replace online from filler neck supply co.
interestingly it was going from the outside inward. i was not overly impressed with it when it was new, it felt more like plastic than rubber, but here we are. the replacement feels good and has reinforcing cords in it, unlike the other one. the replacement was plenty long so some trimming was in order, about 3"s from both ends.

Picked up some steel to replace the fiberglass tailgate.
A local member donated the license plate assembly to the cause.

the replacement filler hose came from:
Filler Neck Supply: Gas Filler Hose | Fuel Filler Necks

the new steel tailgate fill in piece is finished.
i modified an old hinge to put on the passenger side, just to finish it a little better than the plain piece of sheet metal holding it on....just waiting a few days for the paint to dry.

unplanned winter project.
local club member hooked me up with a smoking deal on a really nice cap.
even has a good headliner in it.
thinking now that i have a decent cap, i might have to make another aluminum roof rack if for nothing more than to keep anything from ruining this for me.
of all the caps i have, this is far an away the nicest one.

applied some stickers, albeit some not in the correct the locations.
picked up one of racer65's repo intake hoses.
might repaint the ac housing gloss black to match the air scoop. definitely need to do something about the clamp on the intake hose.
it's the tiniest details that almost nobody is going to see are almost the most satisfying.....was the same thing when i was doing model afv's...i'd paint interiors, then close hatches.

brian, wonderful resto! I am not a fan of body filler like you. I would really like to learn more about the lead filling techniques you used. Can you give any links or tips you have learned in your experience with the lead fillers?

What year is your hardtop?
