Just picked up 1975 fj40 rebuilt engine new carb. Mechanicals it's sound body and frame have rust and bondo. Please see pictures. Is this rust worth treating? Not looking to restore just go camp etc. live in Rockies. Came with efi but not installed. 5500 is what I paid. 136,000 org miles.

Drives well but concerned with rust. Is it worth repairing? Would it last some time? No weak spots etc.

Defiantly worth repairing, sounds like my rig body is rusty but engine is newly rebuilt. If its derivable check body mounts etc. then have fun this summer and tear it down after you have enjoyed it a bit.

That truck is beautiful. Good job!

I think it was a good buy but I would like to media blast the undercarriage or brush some rust from it and prevent further rust. Also it looks nice but paint job was not done the best. Some runs etc. I just wanted to make sure for 5500 I got decent deal. It does run very well. Is efi kit a worthy upgrade? Have Howell kit. Local shop said around 1k for install. Does that sound right?

Having said that, it's so much fun to drive. I have always wanted a fj40.

Looks like a solid rig, don't forget these things are old, if you want park assist or even a good ride, run away NOW!

Is it recommended I wore brush or dremmel the undercarriage and treat with por15?

Not super concerned with panels for now. This will be beat on. I figure some day if I want I can replace tub or someone will restore. Does 5,500 seem fair? Does adding efi add value to fj? As I said I've got Howell kit, needs install and I'm not very mechanically inclined yet. Wanting to learn.

Wire brush underneath. EFI will detract from value if you are going for a high end resto. It would be a nice feature for the mountains I would think. You can fix one panel at a time in these rigs. I like the color.

You got yourself a runner. That is a good deal.

I don't think you'll regret keeping it a driver and dealing with rust spots as you find time. I've seen some posts of guys spraying the underside with Waxoyl.

Congrats

Leave it alone till the bondo falls off. Then deal with it when the time comes.
