SOLD

After a recent health scare, and some soul searching, I have decided to make some changes in my life.

Downsizing forces me to sell my beloved 1974 FJ40. It is time for it to go to a new owner who will appreciate it and who can afford to continue progress on it.

I restored this truck myself, and I have dumped countless thousands of dollars into it over the years to get it to where it is now. It is a reliable/fun truck and I would love to see it go to a fellow Mudder!

If you have not previously seen it, it is in what I would consider excellent condition.

The truck originated in North Carolina and was in decent shape when I bought it. I tore it down to the frame. Believe it or not, the truck only had 39,000 miles on it when I purchased it back in 2000. It had been used for the boss man to drive around on an orchard.

This is not a truck that was thrown together to "flip" and make money, this has been a labor of love over the span of 15 years, and it has the little details and rough edges worked out (well, it is still a 40 though...).

The truck is always evolving, and I am always working to take it to the next level. You can see my build thread on the truck here.

Here is a link to all of the pictures I have of the truck.

I am asking $20k OBO.

Here is one of my favorite pictures

The Bad:
I did not replace the sill when I restored the truck. The paint is bubbling on the corners. I do have a new Awl TeQ reproduction rear sill that would go with the truck
Smokes a little on cold starts as of last summer - never used a drop of oil before that - believe to be valve guide seals. Compression is good on all cylinders
Broke the CB antenna off at Coal Mine last year and have not replaced it.

Good looking 40... GLWS! Love that color!

Anyone tell me what it would cost me and what's involved in returning to stock rims? Don't think they will fit on the current set up and it's the only thing holding me back.

Depends on what kinda shoes you want to put under her. Steelies are still available and 5 new ones prob. cost ya $550. Slap 5 new BFG's 33x10.5x15's under her for an additional $1000. Hub caps are cheap and easy to find.

Then it will look like this!

@powderjay I 2nd what greenbeast is saying above. Nothing technically to stop you and easy as pie. When I bought my 40 it had 35" Mud tires and I went to stock with 33" no problems. Bought my factory OEM wheels and hub caps from Beno.

Would wheel spacers get you the clearance you need? It may be comparing apples and cruisers, but
I have an 85 Extended Cab pickup that clears welded FJ40 steelies, but mine does have wheel spacers....

Turns out I am a bit of a cranky seller! Who knew!

If you want the truck, make plans to be here with money. If you make plans to come see it, I will not sell it out from under you.

I've had 4 people "offer" me 18,000 but none came to look at the truck. That's crazy - especially if you have never owned a 40.

I don't accept offers unless you are standing beside me looking at the truck and plan to buy it - otherwise the price is $20k.

I am negotiable - in person.

Andy

It's tough for us northern buyers to find a nice cruisers. I've missed out on 4 already. I'm 7 and a half hours away and can be there next Saturday if she's still available. No problem putting a deposit down to hold it till then. Let me know.
