Marc, did you paint that steering wheel? Or just abrade and polish it?

I decided against painted so, I went the sanding route. Took alot longer but I won't need to worry about scratching thru the paint. I'll post some pics of it when I start to assemble the tub. I have everything wrapped and seperated by assembly.

Great! What are you going to use the pindle hitch for? I was thinking of welding an eye onto one of my boat trailers....

Hi All:

"Ground Up" - a true work of restoration art!

That "cosmoline" coating I was speaking of can be purchased from the Eastwood Co. <www.eastwood.com> It is part number #16017ZP "Heavy-Duty Anti Rust."

The 32 ounce can is not very expensive ($6.00 ?) and goes a long way - I've used those disposable foam paint brushes to apply the stuff. BTW - I was turned-on to this product by "Spotcruiser" who used it on his '76 FJ40 body tub swap project.

HTH.

Regards,

Alan

I have to keep telling myself this is someone's work, not pictures taken at the factory when it was born. Doublefugging Wow.

That is awesome, looks like it just came from the factory.
Great job.

Killer job, looks good. Making me jealous.

omg that's impressive....two words.....garage only. today i wish i was you. keep up the phenomonal work my friend impatiently awaiting the finish product as im sure you are too after 5 years. kudos once again.

I just helped Marc set the freshly painted Freeborn Red tub on the frame. I have never been a fan of "red" repaints, but this thing is beeeutiful!

Get those photos taken and post them up!

Oh, they will be stoppin' him allright...to admire the craftsmanship! That is immaculate. Are you going to have an unveiling party?? It would feel sacreligious to get it dirty or scratched.....I think it needs to come to my house and just be drooled over for a while!!

Cheers!

Just got home. Man I like! Here are some pics.

These are some 35mm pics that I took before I started tear down. I will try to get them scanned rather than my poor digital phot of a photo attempt.

So what is the verdict on roll bar and jumpseats? Are you putting the long seats back in and disregarding a bar? I know it's not the "safe" thing to do, but I would go stock with it. You can put the damn thing in the NWCruiser's Museum when your done...(BTW that is down town off 23rd and State.)

Ground Up

where did you find the pintle hook? Is it original????

The body looks amazing. I would be afraid to drive that.

Wow! I don't even want to guess what the price on that body work was.....worth every penny in my opinion. Congrats!
