1972 FST FJ40 with inflated ego...SORRY, ALREADY POSTED

I saw this on ebay today...the guy selling it has his head in the clouds....

"This Original fj40 Factory Soft-Top could be put on display as is in a Collection or even a Museum! With a small investment in a restoration this fj40 is priceless, can you put a value on it? 75-150k minimum I would guess??"

Take a look...Toyota : Land Cruiser Toyota : Land Cruiser | eBay

I'm sorry to bump this stupid thread everyone,.... but I grew up in Helena Montana, and I have to comment on the above quoted inane response.

If you've looked at the photos, at all. They are clearly shot in Helena Montana. Look around at the moutains in the background, meh,...the background in general. Not to mention the Sleeping Giant in the photos from the South Hiils???

Not so weird at all Sir, that you haven't seen this 72 FST.

Regards Hobby Shop, and Happy New Year!

Owner maybe?

As a LC fan of all models & styles, it's hard for anyone to make the claims of 75k- 150k these days. Research is abundant and even though the ad never made it's way to Mud, it was found by a mud member. My point is this; I wish people would stop these claims of high dollar this and that and just let me enjoy LC's at prices that are more reasonable and not so inflated. As stated in the other thread, even ICON's aren't worth that. Getting tough enough with current prices. Happy new year everyone.

Not really that weird when you read the auction. Original owner had it for 38 years and kept it on a ranch. While most of don't own enough land that we would have vehicles just for a ranch but doesn't seem to be that uncommon in the west. I remember reading here on mud about a sheep ranch that had a small fleet of FJ45 pickup just for the ranch.

But instead of the hood being bend while driving into a garage with the hood up it's more likely the latches weren't fastened and it flew up while driving. That wasn't that uncommon on older FJ40s. In the mid seventies Toyota added a safety latch what would prevent this.

nope not wierd at all

I live in a relatively small town in upstate NY...and everybody keeps telling me "you must know that other guy with all the cruisers" we are maybe 5 miles from each other...i have yet to see him...been living in this town for 5 years...worked in this town for 11 :meh:

nobody can tell me however just where exactly he lives

If TLC restored this truck, they would sell it for $100k or more. So I don't think the claim is that outrageous. I couldn't do it, but people with skills can/do.

If TLC restored this cruiser I doubt it would be original anymore. When is the last time you seen a TLC cruiser that didn't have a V8. Wouldn't be heading to any museum after that. As for a Icon the only thing on the ones he is making now is the old original VIN plate which allows them to call them used/restored and not a new vehilce which gets around the safety and emissions of new vehicles. Those sell for over $100 because of their name. Once resold they go down in value. Besides TLC's vehicles who do you see selling for anywhere near that much? I guess if your Billy Joel or Allen Jackson and came to them with a cruiser to restore with no budget limit they would do it. But I don't see them buying a old cruisers anymore except to get the VIN plate and title. Back in 08 I transported a frame to TLC. At the same time I picked up a unbelievable clean 1962 FJ40 FST tub. The guy I bought it from had sold the frame to TLC. While at TLC we got a tour of their shop which included how they were switching over to making their own frame. Icon is not a FJ40 and it would really be a shame to see this one sold to them to use the VIN plate and title to make one.
