I almost got my 1970 fj40 back on the road last hurdle is wiring not my strong suit. Current issue is when I pull head light switch I get the I get lights on the gauge panel and front turn signal marker but when I pull to second setting I lose power everywhere no gauge lights or marker and deffinantly not headlights.

Had a similar issue no too long ago. Low beams worked, blackout when hi beams switched on. Right side 3 plug socket was getting power on hi but not the Left. On 3 prong socket on the left only 2 were getting 12v. Traced the wire back and found it to be pulled out from the master plug under the dash. Then refreshed that master plug and everything lights up.
Sometimes headlights don’t work if they are not grounded properly.

I jumped the headlights at the fender block and had high and low Beams so start tracing back I did find that the flasher under passenger dash was un plugged and wires taped up slightly melted not sure if that would effect everything probley lol

Below is a link for Coolermans website. He offers proper plugs and terminals plus color correct wire. There's wiring diagrams there too.

Can you hear the bright/low switch snap, click or act like it is working? You can drill a small hole into the bottom and spray contact cleaner into it to help it work properly.

I’m going to second @pb4ugo …I wonder how deep that damage goes into the harness.

Flasher won’t have anything to do with headlights not working. You’re on the right track checking both the switch on the dash and the hi/ lo beam switch.

Check coolerman’s site. His knowledge is vast, and he’s shared so much online.

With having power at 1 wire on the dimmer…

You should have a Red/white wire which is power in from the dash switch (hot when headlight switch is in position 2), a red/ green which is power out for low beams, and a red/yellow which is for high beams.
