1969 FJ55 fuel gauge is not working. I was told it was workin when the sender was replaced recently. Now it's on "E" all the time. What is the purpose of the relay on the back of that gauge? Part number 83360-20011?

Much older than mine but I think it's like an old voltage regulator.
My guess is that the sender was replaced with the wrong type.
Read up in the manual. It's not just a linear variable resistor like the newer ones, but rather pulses on and off.
