Please let me know if you have any questions or need more pictures. I believe that if you click on nay of the pics you it will send you to my photobucket account.

I think the best thing to do is to do a video walk around since I know I am forgetting lots of things. I will be posting it locally on craigslist and will be deploying in a few months so I might take it off the market until I get back or if it sells locally.

Make me an offer. You never know

Wow very tempting

The weather finally cleared up. I will post up better pics I. The morning. I will also answer questions I have been asked on here. Tonight when I get off work.

I will be more thorough with description extra parts, a brief history as well as current issues I have noticed.

Please be patient. Uncle Sugar keeps me pretty busy during the week.

By the way I might be able to work out delivery within reasonable distance as long as its on a weekend. I have a tow rig and trailer.

Thank you and please ask any questions. I want to make sure I paint a good picture o the condition of the old girl

Del,

Nice rig you've put together. Got off work late last night and was up for hours reading your posts. It would be mine if I didn't pay in full for a 78 earlier in the day. You should have a speedy sale and stay frosty on your next visit to the sand.

Very nice!!

Not trying to take a great deal from a mud member but you could easily get $18,000ish on Ebay... You have obviously put a lot of work and money into your cruiser. Considering you have a family you might as well get some money back in your pocket. Nothing like a house full of open mouths LOL... Just an idea...

I have we'll over $18k into the cruiser but figured I would just put a low price to try to move it.

Though a higher sales price can sometimes be achieved on Ebay, it can also be a lot more hassle. I see so many cruisers 'sell' on Ebay (often by reputable vehicle/cruiser sellers) only to see them relisted time and time again.

All that being said, if this cruiser performs as good as it looks, $13k is a steal.

(full disclaimer: I am trying to raise the $13k to purchase and would rather not spend $18k to buy it on Ebay)

To be honest I am not a big fan of dealing with Ebay, not that I have ever tried to sell anything or tried to buy anything there. I have just heard so many horror stories from ebay over the years that I dont really care to mess with that site. Even if I were to get more money out of the cruiser.

I bought the 40 from a mud member. I have been able to learn from the site so I would prefer if it stayed withing the cruiser community.

More pics and better description coming up.

I like your attitude. Very nice 40 and good luck!

Hopefully this answers a few questions

I Bought the 69 Fj40 from a mud member in July 2009. I drove to San Antonio and hauled it back to North Carolina over 4th of July weekend. When I bought it the 40 had a blown transfer case. It sat without fixing for a few months due to deployment.
I had the transfercase replaced by a shop near the base. The old one was in pieces I took it wheeling out to URE in December of 2009 and the powersteering went out. I replaced the “powerboost brake system” I think that’s what it is called. The Saginaw steering system and breaks are connected I believe. Anyway replaced the whole system with a knew chevy model.
On my way home from another URE wheeling trip I got a flat and since I was flat towing it the front tires turned and I drug them for a few feet essentially destroying them. I went ahead and bought two new front tires and a 5th rim for a full size spare. The shop only had 2 of the old style MTRs so I bought 2 and never found 2 more.
I believe it was in early 2010 I went wheeling in “Gulches” in SC. The manual fuel pump went out on me. When I got home I replaced it with a holly fuel pump, steel braided hose and a super micron filter. I went ahead and deleted the spare tank and removed it. I think that it was casusing the pump to go bad. No real way to prove it but since I am no mechanic it is easier to eliminate and replace than to troubleshoot.

Drove it for a few months then it sat again due to deployment. Got back from deployment in late 2010 and went wheeling in URE with the ONSC guys. Rear pinion snapped going up a hill. Replaced both thirds with 60 thirds with 3.73 gears to get me in better rpm numbers. With the help of the ONSC members, and Darin from Canuck Cruisers, we also added a rear locker and a front locker and partially rebuilt the front axle. I bought a kit from “DIY4x4”, I think, to build an anti wrap bar and tacked it up then went down the street and had a local machine shop finish welding it for me.
I daily drove the 40 for about a year with no real issues. At some point I tried to sell it and some guy from Georgia wanted to trade it for an 80 and I agreed. While driving to GA myself and Jason, another ONSC member hit a pretty bad storm. Long story short, the brand new, freshly restored hard top flew off the cruiser and I was not able to find it.
I found the current top from a mud member. It is a newer version 78 I think but cant be sure. I do know that it was in perfect shape. I wanted the barn doors mainly because I like the look. I also wanted the side vent windows. It fit perfectly fine with zero issues. The kids get more ventilation while seating in the backseat. I added the best top flip and tumble backseat after I saw another ONSC member install one on his.
In 2011 I moved to florida. I daily drove the 40 for a while until I deployed shortly thereafter. The cruiser sat for a few months. When I got back I could see the rain down here in Florida was taking its toll on the spray paint job the cruiser had, done by the previous owners. I wheeled it out at Kentucky with some ONSC friends and it performed pretty damn good. Before I went to Kentucky I had my buddy Darin at Canuck Cruisers rebuild the rear end build me a new double cardin front shaft to bring as a spare.
In 2012 I deployed again and was gone for a while. The crusier sat in the elements. When I got back I noticed the rain was really putting a hurting on the body. I took it down the street to my buddy Robie’s shop. He went ahead and built the metal tech cage and we built a family cage using my old family cage. While the cage was out we went ahead and striped the body and removed most dents and any holes from previous owners mods like – jeep fender flares, antennae, metal covers on the rear corners, the fill hole to the spare fuel tank, and a bunch of other holes for who knows what. The floor had a hole here or there that we patched up as well. None of these holes were rust or anything like that. They were just holes in the body drill out for the purpose of running wires or attaching something to the body.
Robbie’s shop did the all the body work and paint job. I went with ppg single stage. While at the shop we cleaned the tank out to make sure it was not rusted out inside from sitting for months at a time. We used paint matched raptor liner on the floor board and the outside steps next to the doors.
We changed the electric fan that had broken a tooth while wheeling in Kentucky. We changed out the carb because it was gummed up from sitting for months. The electric fuel pump was also replaced. We bolted up the new family cage and welded up the metal tech nose guard. We also welded up some Marlin crawler rear shock mounts.
I have been driving and enjoying the 40 when I am not deployed. It looks very clean and was driving perfect. I was going to Southern Cruiser Crawl back in October in 2013 after I came back from yet another deployment. I was 3 hours into the trip cruising down the interstate at 75 mph getting 13.7 mpg when I started hearing a knock in the engine. I immediately pulled over and called my buddy to come get me. We towed the cruiser home and took it to my buddy Robbies new shop.
He tore into the engine and found a lifter in the passenger head not lifting. I am no mechanic so I am not 100% sure what the issue was. We took the heads off and took them to a very reputable machine shop a few towns over. They rebuilt and machined the heads and did an awesome job and I had my heads back the next day. While we had the engine apart we replaced the timing chain most gaskets and a new cam shaft. We inspected the rest of the engine and my buddy said it was in very good condition. I figured I would save some cash and not rebuild the rest of the engine until it needed it.
We put it back together and it is where it is at right now. I had a rare day off a few weeks ago and gutted all the exess wires that were driving me crazy since I bought the 40. I also went ahead and bolted up 4 new billstein that had been sitting in boxes for a few years.
Issues
1. The top was never finished by my buddy. It still needs to be painted and the drip edge needs the sealant.(I have the sealant and ppg paint) I had to deploy so my buddy was not able to finish it.

2. 4x4 low is hard to engage. The linkage is loose so it does not quite go into low range. if it does, it is a pain to get it back to high range. Easy fix but haven’t had a chance.

3. The rear vent windows lost the nut that holds it to the shutter so it currently does not shut. There is a picture of it in the gallery.

4. The fuel gauge stopped working after we took the tank out to inspect and paint it.

5. I took the 40 for a 100 mile drive on a Saturday morning about 2 weeks ago. Mainly just to move it and avoid the gas gumming up in the new carb. Anyway, I am pretty sure the fan was randomly shutting off or not working. It did not overheat until I got home I noticed the temperature spike to 210 but was around the corner of the house so just pulled into the driveway and parked it.

6. The driver side barn door slightly scrapes the rear bumber. It never did this before but it started after we took the top off to paint. Still closes fine but you just have to be careful when shutting it.

7. The park brake does not work. Needs new cable. I did have my buddy Darin rebuild the actual park brake.

8. The clutch master cylinder is slightly leaking. It is not Toyota brand. I replaced it with an autozone version for $10 about 2 years ago.

9. The SM420 leaks. It is a class 1 leak since I don’t ever see it fall to the ground.

10. The rear passenger break light sometimes does not work.

Spare parts
IPOR belly pan
Metal tech tube doors
Soft doors
Spare fuel tank (20 gallons)
Original jumper seats (they are not in the greatest of shape but not in bad shape either)
Double cardin front drive shaft
Soft top
Lockable storage center console- took it out after paint and left it out since it is easier for the kids to get to the back seat.

I also added about 30 or 40 pictures taken today.

EBay is basically cheap advertising and if you approach it with that in mind it can be a descent experience. Although I agree it would be a lot more satisfying to sell a Cruiser to an enthusiast.
