Was driving along Sunset Cliffs near Ocean Beach in San Diego and saw a 1966 FJ45 LWB removable hard top for sale. The truck looked in very nice shape for being 43 years old. It had the original interior, the truck looked to have the original engine, no major rust to speak of.

The guy was asking $5000.00 or best offer. His name on the sign is Jeff.

If I wasn't about to deploy I'd jump on this and ship it back to Massachusettes.

Not sure if it is advertised locally. I'm out here from MA and have seen this FJ45, a RHD Diesel 40 series troopy, and a two FJ40s. I guess the salt on the East coast just eats them away. I'm liking the West Coast already....

45p'up

Called him today, he was at work and said that he had a ton of calls on it. Sounds nice, offered to buy for full price but he has been offered the same from 2 other buyers. One from AUS. he is sending me more pics tonight and said that he was going to have a bidding war on it. No telling what it will go for.

Just got the pics... floor a little rusty...no pic of floor of bed....waiting for response of a few questions..Appears to be nice though.. Not sure who else is on the bid

bidding war? thought he was asking $5000? that's BS, would not partake in that ****

You have a great point there!!!!! It should be first to come up 5k gets it if you think about it. It is BS that price goes up since he's found several people are interested in it. Good point I guess I've formed bad habits from to much Ebay.

I'm trying to approach this with an open mind, the original post stated $5000 or best offer. If you look at it from a sellers view the best offer is higher in this circumstance. From a buyers point you would think if you offered the 5k it should be yours. Looking for some opinions

.

More info for those interested.

If anyone's looking for it, I stumbled across it in a garage/shop near Sunset Cliffs Blvd and Voltaire about two years ago. I can't remember exact location but its within 2-3 blocks of that intersection and is usually visible from the street through the open door. At the time he wanted $15K.

he did start it up for me and said the F engine had been rebuilt, and it sounded very good, he was talking of slapping a quick paint job on it. The weatherstripping was kind of hokey back then along with some other body work...probably well worth it for $5K though.....unless its back up to $15K now...

obviously no morals on this one..

Apparently he is getting best offers, but no buyers. Does he intend on selling this thing or just entertain bids and whip everyone into a frenzy??? What a waste of time for guys wanting to buy this truck.

When you read an ad and it says "$5000 or best offer", and the seller tells you that someone else has offered him more than $5000, I would "politely" thank him for wasting my time.

where I'm from $5000 or best offer does not insinuate ONE PENNY OVER $5000. if he wanted to auction it he should have e-bayed it. plain and simple, BS

Then there is this ad, Toyota : Land Cruiser : eBay Motors (item 170446939688 end time Feb-22-10 16:06:30 PST)

Then I read the listing, he's kinda a dick.

Perkins diesel, I've heard these will shake the fillings out of your mouth. not sure on the tranny/transfer combo, lots of holes in the dash, bed bottom does not appear to be too rusted but not sure if it's shape is repairable. those rust cut-out on the sides are not indicative of a "solid body", no shots of the floor, and it appears to have something sticking up above that huge front bumper that might be a saginaw box? he's throwing around quotes from who knows where. I wouldn't think it would get a dime over $2500, conservatively it's probably a $500 rig
