I would say the majority is about an 1/16" on average tapered out to nothing. The lower rear in a small area might be approaching a 1/8", but that was the area that was completely rotted out and we had to make an entire new panel.

Also, those 2 last pics of the door jams themselves. You can see (or not see) how I took those 1/16" lip edge and tappered it out to nothing on the edge of the door.

Matt, that's the part of the FJ45LV that I'm NOT looking forward to. The ribbed sides of the FJ45LV makes for alot more hand sanding on the body work to look good I think (tough to do with a long board sander).

Another full day in on the lv today. Pretty much the same, apply filler or primer and sand.

Got the both passenger side doors sanded out to 120 grit now, both look really good. My buddy said another 2 or 3 coats of primer sanded out and the doors should be good. Also worked some more on the right rear quarter and jams, sanding out even further and more primer.

Spend a lot of time this morning on the tailgate. Had to go off and on about a dozen times before we were happy with where it was. Just need a little massaging to get it where we wanted it, took time.

Started on the left rear quarter, not done totally sanding and filling yet, but very close. I'm sure that's where we will start next weekend when I get up there Friday night again.

I brought both driver side doors home with me tonight. I figured if I get time I could maybe get those ready to go so that is one less thing that we would have to do up there next weekend, possibly saving a day or 2

Last couple pics, hung the doors on for fun. Still have to come off again for more final sanding, but just wanted to look

Using a product called Evercoat Z-Grip - Non clog lightweight filler, Part # 100282.

He's been using it for years, says it works very well, really has never had any problems with it.

Yea, it is a real pain in the ass. We cut a a block of wood to fit in between the ribs and then wrapped it with a 6" stick pad for the DA, sanded inbetween the ribs. That seemed to work pretty good.

Still going over each one by hand, but the block straightens up the primer or filler real nice.

Thanks... always wondered what some of the pro's used... My only experiences are with bondo... and this process never comes out perfect for me... of course a 1" thick patch might also be the problem... 1" deep..

After 2 or 3 days in parts I finally finished this thread!! WOW! Awesome! keep us posted and keep the pics coming. your 45 may have had less rust than my 62 has. Yeah kinda pitiful, but it was originally from MN!

As a side note, I have worked at 2 ACE's while in college. Cool places to work!

Any pointers on getting my wife to help me with stuff like this? I am guessing you do no thave any kids?

The 1" thick stuff isn't going to work very well Although, most of the filler I took out of this LV when I started was nearly that thick in places, and it had been in there a long time and it wasn't going to fall out anytime soon.

I would say after all that metal work I have done in certain areas I've did the best I could do. The coverage of that filler on the rear quarters is all over, but not thick at all. At the thickest point it is probably around 1/16", more like thick paint. But, needed to make those panels straight, since they had been so bent up. In the door jams, I would say paper thin.

I know for a fact that the vehicle will probably out last me now. So 50 years from now and the new owner is restoring it, he can get on mud and bitch about how stupid the PO was

I'm smelling that steak too, but still a ways to go........

I hope your wife has an interest in cruisers, mine does so that helps.

Then it has to be super cool rig and be being built specificly for her so she knows that it's hers. Pretty much the only way I can get her out there.

For the most part yes. Continetal beige for the lower half and roof color. It's a 71 Toyota color. I mixed up a half pint for her and sprayed a test panel. Kinda a brown, beige, khaki green all mixed into one, I like it

The upper half color is white, although I've sprayed 12 different whites on test panels and she still hasn't found one she likes yet.

So she's close.
