Request for Treeroot, pics needed.......

Mike, I need to re-visit the tailgate weather stripping area.

I need to know if the weather stripping went all the way around the opening, or if there was a gap at the bootom?

If it did go all the way around I need photos of the bottom area, where the weather stripping was glued on? Obviously the sides and top have a channel area that it goes in, if the bottom area had it on the vehicle I don't know where it goes?

Lots of pics :)

Thanks, Matt

I'm not Treeroot, but I am bored.

Hope this pic is what you are looking for.

Getting close.

Any pics of all the weatherstripping in 1 photo.

Also the pic you took, closer and directly from the back, specificly where it is glued across the bottom and in each bottom corner.

Thanks, Matt

I opened the convertable tailgate for the first time ever. Nope no weatherstrip. The 64 has original but you can tell by the pics, there isn't much left. I don't think the ground was OE. Cool discovery today....I have all four stock colors! The convertable was T-332 Seminole Red. (T-1028 Spring Green - T-332 Seminole Red - T??? Band-aid/Salmon - T-310 Capri Blue)

Thanks Mike, I think that will do.

From your pics it's looks as the weatherstripping continues all the way around the opening, I thought there may be a space towards the bottom or something??

Looks like it just follows the curve and goes along the vertical portion of the back opening right along the bottom.

Right?

Thanks, Matt

exactly

Can you post or pm me the parts you need to finish your LV? No guarantees but I'll take a look at what I have. I gave away my only rear bumper yesterday but...I hear they reproduce like rabbits if you get them alone with a press and some metal;)

Will do! Not in need of a rear bumper, I have something special planned for that ;)

I'll probably wait and see what Semlin sends me from the "woods" cruiser, see what I will need after that?

Thanks again, Matt

Summit. I believe it is a 20" or 22", 1.5" on each end, the brand might be Spectre, not sure on the spelling??

The radiator I got from Man-e-fre had a 1.5" neck on it. I also got the billet aluminum adjustable neck on the top from Summit in a 1.5"

Hope that's what you needed?

Matt

Thanks!

Got a few hours in on the lv tonight. My mechanic buddy couldn't make it this evening so had to take some of the wiring upon myself ;)

Pretty much worked on the area where the neutral safety switch relay, LED indicator ring and indicator module wires come together. I had designed that area if you remember with an 8 position barrier strip. Took some time to strip all those wires, crimp on ends, solder and shrink wrap. Got it done, turned out nice I think.

Also unbolted my brake booster and flipped it upside down. I didn't like the way the hose inlet was on top, so now it is routed underneath.

Also brought home some 1/8" pipe fittings so I could install the oil sending unit. I tried last night, but it would hit the intake manifold trying to go straight in, so now it's at a 45 degree angle.

Also got my seat belts installed for fun, sideways pic of that.

Got to call lokar tomorrow, instructions are a little vague on how to route to the Neutral safety switch on the shifter to the relay on the firewall. Mechanic buddy was thinking tomorrow night, so hopefully we'll be back to more wiring.

Matt, you need a check valve in the line to the booster, so if the engine dies it don't take the vacuum off the booster.......If the booster came from a mini it was on the firewall....

The neutral safety switch goes inline to interupt the starter if it is in gear, so if it goes from the ign switch to a relay, it goes in-between there
On the ones I have installed I used no relay, so the voltage went from the ign switch to the neutral safety switch to the starter.

10-4 on the check valve, I'll have to round one up, the booster was an ebay special off an 84 forerunner. ;)

I understand what the safety switch is for and I understand what you just wrote......Then why do I need Lokar's Safety Neutral/back up relay?? If I understand the way you described it I could just bring the purple ignition wire from the column to the switch on the shifter itself and then to the starter?

The relay on the firewall says to run that same purple igintion wire through the relay and then to the starter?

Thanks, Matt

Are ya' running the BU lights?
I'll bet the relay is to power them up so ya' don't have lots of amps going thru the Lokar switch......
Yes purple wire thru the NSS will work, in fact the same color on the GM harness' I work with.

For those who want to know what were talking about:

1st pic is of the neural safety switch that I believe Butch runs the igintion wire through and then to the starter (if I understood you right?)

2nd pic is of the instructions for the Saftey Neutral/back up relay I have mounted on the firewall. You can see the the one brings the purple ignition wire in and then out.

No back up lights that I'm aware of in a LV?

Should I still use the lokar relay since I have it, and then run it through the switch on the shifter?

Matt

Is the relay for the starter or BU lights?

I found this......
Back-Up Light/Neutral Safety Switch Kits – Part No. BL-1400U <back
Can I use the kit for both a back-up light and neutral safety switch?
No. The kit is designed to be used as one OR the other, but not both.

When using your kit as a Neutral Safety Switch, what wires in my car are attached to it?
Neutral Safety Switch breaks contact from ignition key “start” position to starter solenoid. Only one wire is cut for connection.

What is the difference between your Back-Up & Neutral Safety Relay and the Back-Up Light & Neutral Safety Switch Kit?
The Relay (INS-1746) is designed to function as both back-up light and neutral safety switch simultaneously and connects in line with the Lokar Indicator Sending Module. The Back-Up Light & Neutral Safety Switch Kit (BL-1400U) can be only one or the other and does not hook up to the Lokar Indicator Sending Module. Lokar Relay only works with Lokar indicator and control module.

SO I reckon since ya' don't have BU lights, ya' leave the relay out...

Ok, this is the way I'm reading this: I have INS-1746 on my firewall.

If I am using the Lokar Indicator Sending Module, this is the module that also sends the signal to the LED indicator ring that lights up and shows what gear it is in.

If I am using that Sending module in conjuction with INS-1746 I do not need to hook up the NSS on the shifter. The signal is being sent through those 5 multie colored wires that are now hooked up to the matching colored wires on the barrier strip.

I imagine the sending indicator module is electroniclly telling it not to start vs the NSS switch on the shifter is mechanical.

In hind sight, I see that I did probably not need the relay, I could have ran it through the NSS on the shifter. But, since I have the relay on the firewall, I am going to run the purple wire through that relay and it should perform the same function as if I were to run it through the NSS. Does this makes sense, I think I describe the way I understand it accurately??

Appreciate the feedback and info, this is good stuff :)

Matt

Yes, since ya' got the relay and it's set up, install some small BU lights in or under the rear bumper.....they are nice to have.......

That actually doesn't sound like a bad idea, I probably will do that

Thanks, Matt

The wiring connection block in #2049 just below the relays... did that come with your harness kit or did you buy that seperately? I need something like that for my FJ55 Tailgate... mine crumbled when I pulled it out.
