Paint should be dry tomorrow so I should be bolting the bumper back on. I am going to use a 1/2" Stainless steel carriage bolt to bolt it on. That way the head is round and flush and kinda matches the bumper. I plan on turned the square portion of the bolt down to .500" in the lathe. Even though it doesn't have the square I still think it will catch and tighten.

Matt, looks great. one thought on the bolts. what if you drilled the hole just slightly smaller that the widest diagonal point of the c-bolt? that way when you tightend it down it would have a tendency to bite and less likely to spin on you?

No, no, no....that vette is way too complete for your next project. I think you should build an FJ45 lwb truck, but with lomusass's tub on your own stretched 40 frame. Shoot, lomusass might even stretch the 45 body for you so your stretch legs can get in under the wheel and work the pedals. ;)
Seriously, the prices are pretty reasonable, and you'd spend a lot less time on something like that than what you just did rebuilding this entire body from scratch. I'll send you photos of how the 45 frame is factory stretched from a 40.

No vette's for me...read a few post's above, that's a buddy's junk ;p Kinda neat, but doesn't really do it for me, I'm just labor on that thing ;)

I would like to see those photos of the frame factory stretched....post them up please, I'm sure a few other guys wouldn't mind seeing them either. You never know, might have to talk to Lomusass :D

Thanks, Matt

I probably am going to turn them down to .510 or .520" to be exact. That way they might be kinda a hammer/press fit. You are thinking correctly though :D

Thanks, Matt

Because a couple mud members PM'd me privately...........figured there might be a couple more out there also.....

I would still suggest making each one out of stiff cardboard first for a template, just to make sure you are happy with them. I used the template to trace it onto the 3/8" flat stock.

If anyone has any suggestions or mods I should make to the drawings please let me know. Best I could do with the programs I have.....hope it helps :)

Edit: Also, my bumper is 1/4" sheet stock bent at 90 at 4 1/2" i.d. I believe it was sheared 8" wide which gives it a rough flange of 1 7/8" when it was bent. I had it cut to a 6 ft. lengh, but overall after I was done I believe it was 5' 6 1/2" I believe I cut it to 5' 8" and then cut the 90 back 3 1/2" on each end. The made a paper template and cut the radius's on each end, an overall dimension at this point of 5' 6" Then heated the steel with the torch and bent it around the radius, welded and ground. After bending the ends each 1/4" gave it an overall dimension of 5' 6 1/2" Make sure you use sheet steel if you bend 1/4" to 90 in a brake. 1/4" flat stock would be more than likely to crack along the bend. Clear as mud??

thanks for the templates. off the bumper subject, but were you satisfied with the brake booster bracket you used which clears that body support? where did you get it? did you see "Daves 45" where it looked like the body support was moved to the side. i don't think that was factory? see pic.

Yes, satisfied with the booster bracket that clears that rib. I got mine from JT outfitters, pretty close to you so I imagine it would only take a day or 2 to get?

I believe the one in the pic had the rib moved, I know some also graft in a piece of firewall from a newer 40. Personally I thought the booster adapter was fine.

Is there a way that the we can take all 99 pages of this thread with the photos and text and put it on a CD? Would be a shame to lose all this.

I'm not the guy to do that. Maybe some computer guy could clean it up and sell a few copies? Treeroot? ;p

yes :D

my LV radar went off...false alarm though, it came across that you wanted to give me your LV because of a missing wiper arm. :D

Yea, something like that  I should let you have it, it's missing a few other parts :D

On that note, any luck with some of that stuff? :)

Been moving my mom every day for the past week and working all night as well. This week was worse than death wrench 2006 when I decided to paint the 40 one week before CM06. :D

I'll round up the parts and get them in the mail for you. Did Steve tell you I was planning on taking a vacation out to MN when my mom called and told me she was moving.

oh and that bumper looks great!!

Canada's closer.:flipoff2:

I *have* to get back to Kenora to see my family this summer. You'll be getting a visit from me as well when I do.

Kenora's only a couple hours north of me.....swing on down, assuming they'll let you across the border :D

Alright kids... I'm going to take the task of creating a set of PDFs for this thread. It will be a single PDF per page since with all of the pics it's gonna get quite large anyway.

Keep tabs on progress at http://www.miletwo.com/buckroseau/.

First 10 pages are already online.

factory frame stretch

Okay...pics are hard at night. I really need to shoot this in the day with additional lighting, but you'll get the idea. There is a splice "cap" that runs all the way to the tubular crossmember in the front. In the rear, it angles up just behind the bed mount. That area on mine is painted black, so it really blurs out in the dark here....

The area I'm referring at the rear is in that last pic. Do you see the 50 degree angle or so reflecting on the frame just in front of the spring hanger? That's the rearward angle of the splice.

Little bit done on the lv tonight.......bumper and glamour shots :D

Got home after work and went to work on the bumper. S.S. carriage bolts shoulders were turned down to .510" in the lathe. They fit the rear bumper holes perfect, very tight but a couple good solid hits from the heavy hammer they set in just right. Got all the bolts tightened on the bumper then tighten down all the bracket bolts on the frame.

Wife came out and popped in the rear back up lamps, that was pretty easy, about a 30 second job. I had brought home a new reciever hitch with a
3 1/2" drop, seemed about perfect. Bolted on a 2" ball and figured I better give it a try?

Had to run out to the airport where I had my jet ski's stored....getting hot so it's time ;) Friend of mine was out there so talked to him a while. Also got a few glamour shots, hope you guys don't get sick of them? Few pics of the trailer hooked up also.
