BTW, if you have the money, I know a guy in LA who has a lot of New, OEM FJ40 parts that he has been hoarding over the years. The problem is that his prices are sky high and he does not negotiate (in fact, I think he is crazy) but, if you need to find that one special part and if money is no object, then there are resources out there--all about money and time and time and money. later. m

What does the dome light look like on your 9/64 FJ45?

Here is one like the my 9/64. Bracket is same as the one in the truck. Light is new OEM I bought back in the nineties.

This is in my 10/69 70 model which is like the one in my 9/67 68 model. Light produced by these is not much. I added a second one to my 68 back in the eighties. Need to update to LEDs.

This is the one in my 10/75 76 model. Think these started with the 75 model.

Light looked the same in 82+ but those also worked off a door switch. These are NLA. What the FJ40 hard top used prior to the 68 model not sure since never had a FJ40 from 63-67.

Anyone know when this plain round mirror stopped being used? Need to figure out if it’s correct for a late-64 build. It came off of an early-64 build. Anyone know the general cut-off point for this one, and what came immediately after?

I don't think the plain mirror went away until the 68 model when a second mirror was added and moved from the A pillar to the upper door hinge.

Interesting mustard soft doors. If original paint that would make them 75+. If the bows have mustard paint underneath would explain the light on the driver's side.

I know that @HelloKitty65 is looking for those mirrors for his '64 built 40.

Not the original doors, but these are some nice ones that recently purchased for this project — completely intact.

That I am. This one seems to have a repair made to it, the shiney bit? @nuclearlemon is going to get a pic of a smooth mirror from the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum soon. There are already many similar mirrors from that period, and their reproductions. A dead ringer might be cool. I'm good waiting for oem, even rusty.

No repair... just a quick spin on the wire wheel to get it moving again. Ideally I would just figure out a way to replace the glass on this one, but that's not looking too hopeful with the pressed-in (crimped in?) mirror.

It’s not a perfect fit, but the shop that made me a windshield replaced my rear view mirror. I didn’t ask how they affixed it, but so far it’s holding well. The flaw in the shape is only noticeable if I really look at it.

Glad to see those wheel wells weren't hacked up!

No joke! Talk about being lucky. Not everyday a set of flares are installed over uncut rear fenders.

Great looking truck! Clean her up and enjoy!

Many auto glass shops can cut new mirror glass. I've had it done for my inside mirror so far, and will do the outside mirrors once they are painted.

The inside mirror glass is retained by a crimped rim, that is actually easier to deal with. I carefully removed the rim, had new glass cut to match and then carefully put it all back together.

For the outside glass where there is no removable rim, the shop said they would cut the glass and glue it in place.

A round mirror should be easier to get right than rectangular with round corners.

You fellas get FST's after 1975? I saw one 1984 FJ40 FST back in 2005, guy I used to work with. Had the hard top doors though.

We got almost none after 74 but a few were imported in 75 and maybe 76. Hear thru 77 model but have never seen one. In the US mustard yellow was a new color for 75 and the US seems to be one of a few markets that FST came with soft doors. Almost all other markets had hard doors with the soft top. Do not believe the 70 series was ever offered with soft doors.

At least the outer rim will help cover any imprefections. Have a few of those mirrors could use a new mirror. Is there any type of padding to protect the edges?

The edges were smoothed with a belt sander, probably a diamond belt, I'd guess. I did use some 3M body trim tape to slightly pad the glass before crimping the rim back on.

@Living in the Past
FYI- I have that same interior light in my 10/73 '74 model, so It may have started with the '74 model. My '72 didn't come with a hardtop so I don't know if was used any earlier than 10/73.
HTH,
Will

My 73 FST came with a 72 hard top which had the early light so guess it's possible started with 73. 73 was the first model year the threaded hole appeared for the three point seat belt in some markets, Germany comes to mind. If that was part of the dome light change I'm not sure.
