This light was used on the bottom of the dash until the factory heater was installed. The vent and heater switch bracket went in the place the light was. Later they were used on FST model up to 9/73. Then the B pillar of the soft top and hard top models had a room light. 72 and 73 FHT model either had plugs or the Vader light. Both seem most hard tops model had the holes for the light and switch. Called Vader light because it looks like Darth Vader's helmet.

The 9/72-9/73 reverse light is larger than the 9/67-9/72 style. 9/73 reverse light was part of the tail lights. This larger light was only used on the 73 model.

Ok I know what a vader light is, but I don’t see one in the OP’s pics nor he doesn’t mention having one. And a ‘63 never had a backup light. So again, why are we bringing these up in this thread?

Lack of anything better to talk about

Found a picture of the early location of the Vader light.

If the dash is original you will have a round hole for the light on the bottom.
On my fj40 the vader light was removed a long long time ago and replaced with the switch for the heater right there.

I picked it up today and there are a lot of good parts. Let me know if you are interested in any.
I am keeping the headlight bezel, good wiper motor and running boards.
I am willing to part with the rest.
Hello from Teton Valley. That thing has been listed for a long time. I think you’re on the right track price wise.
Hey, I did have a green fj45 for sale years ago. I’ve got some pics of the transfer case and transmission.

Not sure what that transmission is from but it not from an FJ40. The transfer case is the mid 1963 style that ran until 10/82 behind a three speed.
Here is the 61 to mid 63 style transmission and transfer case.

It was a column shift from the side with a removable top cover. The transmission shaft cover on the back transfer case shaped different a only used four bolts.

I’m interested in the transfer case, i think. I have the remainas of a 1973 3spd case from building a Orion case. I know I used the shift plate, nose cone and probably some others i forgot. After reading the FAQ, the case from the early trucks isn’t as strong, so I’d be salvaging the parts I need. Are the parts interchangeable?
