this is interesting.
http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/5063397721.html

Wrong turn signals and mirrors, wrong seats and steering wheel, Bezel is upside down, wrong windshield, wrong hood(should be a split hood with chrome ornament), wrong front grill (should have the amber round lights below the headlights), tub had a lockable fuel door (thats mounted sideways?). what else?

So maybe the frame is a 1960 model, but the tub and all other parts are not….
what is this unicorn 1983 model diesel they mention?

I exchanged E-mails with the seller pointing out the issues you mention along with quite a few more. I pointed out that the add is miss leading and than any LC enthusiast can spot most of said issues. The response was that he originally had it for sale for $34K and then had it appraised and the appraiser recommended the $41 K number.

Another club member ran into the guy in person and was told that he expected to make $31K on the sale, making me think he paid $10K for it. The seller told me that I was bashing him. I informed him that it was a pretty big club. The guy has no clue and does not want to know the truth.

The truck is on ebay as well. I posed this question to the seller:

Dear jhandch1980,

So to clarify, this is actually an FJ40 body with late 70 series interior, electronics and drivetrain sitting on an older FJ25 frame, correct? Just the frame is FJ25, right? .

His answer:

Dear gr8shelbydane,

That is correct. It is titled as 1960 as well. It is fully restored and runs perfectly too. Just to be sure as well it does have a 1983 landcruiser diesel engine.

So basically what he's selling is an FJ25 frame and some 40 and 70 parts all cobbled together...for a very reasonable $41K. GLWS! Hehe.... Oh, and he must really think alot of that unicorn engine to mention it over and over...and over.

Sure is a rough looking rear cross member to have "no rust"

Didn't even take off the fender when shot the paint. Just taped it the frame and then sprayed over the old rust. Fail.

If that is what is now considered a "full restoration" Our fully restored 80 is for sale for a mere $30K :)

I do not care how stupid a person is, the seller has to know that this vehicle is not restoration!! Simply no excuse other than trying to rip people off.

How about a few local members drive over and set this guy straight

I've long been bothered by peoples' lack of comprehending the word 'restoration'.

And 'gone through'.
And 'collectible'.
And 'vintage'.
And 'rare'.

The list can go on. Not only relating to cars, either. And I love when they combine 'rare' with 'desirable'.

In this case, I would like to offer up my semi parts-matching 1974 FJ40, with the extremely rare John Deere green over Hunter green over original Nebula green paint scheme. In some cases you can get the full camouflage feel, where I purposely let the paint peel and patina! This is a one of a kind original that is both rare AND desirable! This has from what experts have told me, the rare 1.5F and H42 with the lower gear set. That upgrade alone would be ~$5000! There is also the highly desired body/suspension speed governor that maximizes the power and speed at 55 mph. This baby is so finely tuned that it needs 2 fuel filters to keep sub-par fuel from entering the fully restored 2 barrel carb! Today only I'll include the headlight wire covers, for the chance encounter of a rock might take out the very expensive $9.95 Pep Boys headlights! For you guys only, $55,000. I'll put it up on Ebay for $75,000 later this week!

Just don't take it to OBX, it doesn't like that place.... And I won't charge you for the free rust.

I went by today for some pictures but it was not out for viewing. Perhaps later.
