Anyone knows if these steelies come on the 16"x8" size ?

From everything I have seen they are either 15x7, 16x7, or 17x7; I have not seen an 8" width. However, a good wheel shop like Stockton Wheel will be able to roll them out and expand them. The US Wheels ones from Summit can come in just about any width.

Thanks! I like the way the truck is developing, I still have a few things I want to do with it. To sandblast the wheels I was quoted $25 each....to much for me so I bought a sandblaster from Harbor Frieght for $35 and it worked great. The H55 with these tires and stock gears is a little slow between lights, but once it gets going it cruises really nice (70-75mph easily) so I think I'm going to re-gear soon...what would preferable gear size? I'm thinking 4.56 to keep the 2F/H55 combo around 2000-2100rpm freeway speed.

Anyway I'll post more photos as I upgrade (this weekend installing my Warn 8274-50 and a Tuffy console)

Well all depends on what you will be doing with the rig and what kind of terrain it will see. Same thing I do when looking at mtb tires, I figure out where I will be riding them and then plan accordingly. Also, what is your budget and size tires you are looking for. Have been looking at "cheaper" M/T to fit the stock rims in the stock size (235/75R15) and can find them for about $150/ea but then again I can find some A/Ts for that much in a 30" or 31".

I currently run 33 x 10.5 BFG MT. I like them, however I find them a bit loud on the highway. I daily drive my 60 and the howling gets old. The vehicle is setup for overland travel, but it does occasionally see rocks that get in the way on the trail.

I would love to hear from those who have switched from MT to AT and if it made any difference on the trail or highway.

Great timing with this tread!! My original rims are bad and I just blew out a sidewall on a rear tire.

Time for new tires and wheels!! Thanks to all the great work on this thread, I ordered "Wheel, 8-Spoke, Steel, Natural, 16 in. x 7 in., 6 x 5.5 in." from U.S. Wheel for $69 each. They ship in white and for the price, I can paint them semi-gloss black and still be ahead of the game. 5 wheels for $362.35 shipped.

Should arrive in a few weeks. I'll post up pictures once installed.

The guy from Summit Racing told me they should arrive in "A few weeks!!!" I put my order in on a Wedensday Sept 5th, the wheels were manufactured on Thursday Sept 6th and they arrived on my doorstep on Friday Sept 7th.!!!! I swear they were still warm!!

Talk about service!

Since they arrived naked, (which is fine by me), I will be off to the powder coater on Monday! :bounce::bounce2:

That is awesome service. You must be right next to where they manufacture them. I know that we have a summit racing up in Reno but have never been there.

The wheels come out of Huntington Beach, CA and I live in Anaheim. A mere 15 miles. I was still suprised at how fast I got the wheels.

I have bought these original wheels and need to decide if I want to use them or the aluminium that came with the car.
16 inch set: 205 80 r16 104s
Changing takes 7 minutes per wheel...

And here are the new splitrims 7,5x16 , I like the black color but front and rear are different type rims.
(These are as wide as 205/80/16 but higher)

Yeah that is awesome.. I just wish they had a better variety of designs that you could have custom made. You did those with the 3.625" backspacing correct?

Personally, I'm a big fan of the steel wheels. More old school than aluminium wheels. Also the steel wheels are easier to deal with if they get scratched while off-roading.
Nice Rain!!

I got the wheels in 3.5" backspacing.

here's my 60. I just put this tire wheel combo on 2 weeks ago. The tires are BFG KM2 255/85x16 on Tacoma spare wheels that I sand blasted and painted. I got them at a wrecking yard for $25 each.

Are you using spacers with these wheels? Any rubbing?

Hey Carp, running 1" spacers...haven't had any problems with them and they give it a nicer stance with the added 2" width.

I now have my new 16" steel wheels & tires mounted and installed!!

Feels great to have straight and true rims. No more wobbly steering wheel.

OK, screw it, I'm just going to follow your lead. I like how my truck looks on those rims in 15", so I'll be fine with the same in 16", and the price is hard to beat.

Dude, you are in violation of your Mud contract by not showing full body shots of that rig.......especially with the new coveted 16", spacer-less running gear on it.

C'mon man, pull it together! :hillbilly::beer:

(excellent wheel info, thx)

NICE! I'm having the same issue with wheels myself that you were. Two years ago I ordered a set of chrome 15x8 wheels with 2.5" BS but now that it's time for new tires, the ones I want aren't even available for 15" wheels anymore! So I'm going to sell the 15" wheels to pay for a set of these: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PCW-98-6883R2-5/

Pretty peeved about it because the 15" wheels I got look EXACTLY like factory wheels, which is what I wanted in the first place. If I could afford to go your route and have them chromed, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Yes very nice! I have to get used to the bigger tires but with the 205 I get stuck even when I turn the car in the field in front of our house when the corn is gone (in a few weeks).
So I want fat tires and keep the original 16 but I don't want spacers and no rubbing making a turn.
i have just bought split rims, so I will need to learn how this works and find the correct tires!

Aldo the forum is full of info the tires are far to expensive to make a mistake in ordering!

So please can you tell me what will fit (I now finally understand that 235/85 means 85 % of 235 :bang: )
So the 205/80=164
235/85=200
Bomar stated 255.85.16 is impossible, good, I think 235/85/16 is the only alternative.
John Galt says: running LT235-85s and LT 265-75s on 16 original.

1967 TLC ordered 16 in. x 7 in., 6 x 5.5 in." that is like the original 16. Your old originals were kind of warped and in the pictures you are using the same 33 x 10.5 BFG MT tire right?
:bounce::bounce2::bounce::hhmm::cheers:
So the cheapest 235/85 R16 nankang is 115 euro,
and for 155 euro = General GRABBER AT 235/85 R16 best Offroad Award 2011 :meh:
https://www.google.nl/search?um=1&h...&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=iw&ei=emlfUK35E8q30QXMloAo

also nice= Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S (G012) 235/85 R16
Lol here is my copy/paste info I keep in my email draft folder, no offence to anyone intended but choosing the tire life is hard and expensive :beer:

Luckily the 205 are some kind of concrete metal rubber mix because they don't wear at all.

15 inch aluminium set: 32x11.50 r15 113R m+s lt x=unknown
16 inch set: 205 r16 104s original 8x16 wheel

the stock 16" split rim width is 5.5" unless they have been widened. The more posts I read about this rim, it seems 235 85 R16s are the way to go
235/85 r16 =fine
255=max? = 285/75/R16
255/85/16s
Anything between 245/75 and 285/75 goes well on a 8x16 wheel

305/70R16 ~ 33" diameter
285/75R16 ~ 33" diameter

A 285/75/16 is roughly a 33x11.22x16

EG: 305/70/16= A section width thru the center of the carcass of 305 mm (12.01 inches).

An aspect ratio of 70%, the sidewall is 70% as tall as the section is wide, .7 x 305 = 213.5mm or 8.41 inches.

So, 8.41x2=16.81 + 16 =32.81 inches tall (or 33x12.00x16)

295/75r15

nice look 16= 235/85's fat and high

"LT" tire,,Light Truck

tirepressure:
40psi=2.76 bar
38=2.62
35=2.41
32=2.21
30=2.07

BFG KM 33x10.50s on stock rims?
my km2's are tagged to run 50 psi cold i usually run about 40
36 front and 40 rear. Ride was rough. I reduced to 32 fr/rr

steel wheels

Hi all I had stockton wheel make up a set of five 7x16 inch steel wheels using stock 15 inch landcruiser steel wheels that take the hub caps . they used the centers and welded to 16 "x7" drop center with a 3 3/4 "backspace. Glen Knowles worked there at the time was very helpful we fited the wheels before they did the finale welding and fitted them with 285x75 x16 tires and they powder coated them a dark gray. sorry to sayGlen is not working there to my knoledge is not working there any more he was very helpful and was a Landcruiser owner. Hope this helps .

Hey 1967 TLC! Those rims look great on your rig...
I knew i recognized your rig from somewhere! There's only so many 60's in my area and even less in the forest/olive green colour you have. You were filling up with gas at Shadow Mountain gas station and i pulled up next to your rig in my passat and waived at your :princess:.
I was on my way to work at Lake Crescent and low and behold you were staying there with your family!
I must say... i drooled over your rig for like an hour in the parking lot. Super sweet setup you got there. I bet it looks even better with the 16" steelies and matching Mt/r Kevlars. ;)
Sweet rig!!
:cheers:
