On the hunt for black steel rims to fit some 235/85's... Came across this website and the price looks really enticing... Just wondering if anyone has dealt with these guys before. I think new these rims are around 100 a piece from beno/cdan with our discount. This would certainly save a few skins for other things needing to be done... :D

Here's the website.
Toyota Sequoia Tundra 01-04 16" Steel Wheel 69392

If no one has heard of them then i may go ahead and order one rim and then post up my findings!

Cheers! :)

Almost guaranteed to have the wrong backspacing, likely in the 4.5" range (vs. the 3.5" backspacing which fits pre-FJ80 cruiser axles), which means you'd have to spend a considerable amount of money on spacers.

You'd certainly be better off getting properly backspaced steel wheels from Summit Racing. I think it's about $70 a piece for the custom-backspaced 16x7 they have.

Yes he is correct about the backspace but run a 1.5" spacer from ebay ($120 a set) and you will be good to go.

Yes that is a draw back but the plus is they are about 20lb per wheel lighter than anything you will get from summit. All the wagon style or soft 8 or d window wheels in that size will be 45lbs or heavier and the factory wheels are about 22lbs. Also Toyota OEM wheels have a shallower drop zone in the wheel so it will hold the bead (oe harder to loose the bead) than an aftermarket wheel.

I have been running these and FJC steel wheels on my trucks for years. I love them.

Hmm... I was under the impression that only .25 inch spacers would be needed to clear my TRE's. Is this true?
I think if I had to buy bigger spacers I might just go with the right backspaces rims.
Bomar, would you mind posting a couple pics of your 6x series with the rims?

Definitely be careful if you go the way of spacers/adapters. There are many on here who have never had problems and many that have. If you do go with spacers, BE SURE you are meticulous about checking them and re-torquing them. I also "think" I read somewhere that getting steel spacers and not aluminum is preferable as the steel are bored out and the aluminum are machined. The machined ones are not near as strong apparently, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

That could be said the same for lug nuts...Always check

There are no issues with Alum spacers just how they are put on torque them down and use thread locker on the nuts and you will be good to go.

I have some 16" steelies with 4" + backspacing and as they will clear everything, I wouldn't drive them that way. Couple reasons one your track width will be off and two you may clear but in my case when aired down or if I where to hit a bump the tire would have bulged out and hit my rods. So be carful you don't wanna shred a sidewall of a new tire.

Run spacers, we almost all do it who run 16"s

Ok so... are these the rims i linked in the above thread? I'm looking at pretty thin tires. 235/85 to be exact so i'm not sure i'd have the same problem of them hitting the tie as you snowboard.
What i'm getting from you guys is A) they'll fit but i will need a little spacer to stop the tire from hitting anything. B) there is no way the rim will fit unless i have a 1" or more spacer... or from other threads C) the rim will fit with a .25" spacer but my track width will be a little narrower than stock.

Hmm... If i don't get a definitive answer by monday i'll just order one. :D

Cheers so far guys!

I wouldn't hold out for a definitive answer. For whatever reason, definitive information on fitment for !6" and 17" wheels seems to be a black hole in the 60 universe. I've been trying to get the same clarity, as I want to be able to run E load rating MT's and those no longer exist in 15" tires.

The easy answer is to stick with the 3.5" back spacing of the 15" wheels. It will definitely work. You can have 16" wheels made with 3.5" back spacing for reasonable money.

Its because each wheel, backspacing or not is different.
I run 9" wide tires, I think you will still need a spacer, can you drive with it like that? yes but check things out and be safe, shredding a sidewall on a front tire would not be a fun, or safe thing. And unless you want to look like a LR (no offense ts888 ;) ) why would you want a skinnier track width?

I am very meticulous about everything on my cruisers... spacers would be no exception. :)
Are these not the same rims that were used in this thread?

He used 1/4 inch spacers just fine. Needless to say i'm a little bit confused now. Has anyone actually used this site before?
Bomar... Care to post or send some pics of your rig?
Cheers!

Mine are the exact wheels on the truck linked......sorry I don't have alot of pictures of my truck

Are you planning on wheeling any? If so you will rub badly in the rear. I run a 255.85.16 and I am about a 1/8 from rubbing in the rear when flexed with a 1.25 inch spacer.

There is no definite answer if you don't want to run spacers then don't but be prepared for issues in rubbing down the road or possible brake clearance issues if you are running bigger brakes.

People on here freak out about spacers and I have ran them for 20 years on different types of cars and trucks. Don't worry. Any and everything can f up if not installed properly or maintained properly.

Well... I have no problem running spacers. Only real issue is to keep the cost down. Adding thicker spacers on all four corners jumps the price up quite a bit.
I'll be running 235/85 MT's with a stock (no sag) suspension.
I do wheel but not hardcore. My rig is mostly an Expedition rig. Long highways, road trips, logging roads in the NW, and my home during the winter up at Mt. Baker.
Bomar, what are you close to rubbing on?
One thing i'll make sure to do is give a definitive answer on these wheels and a 235/85 tyre size... For the price these rims are definitely far cheaper than buying from the dealer even with a discount.

Two things, one I forgot look for rubbing on your leaf spring when fully turned as well, that happened to me (bigger but skinnier tires) and also, if I remember correctly its actually the drag link end when turned left that may give you problems.

What part of the NW are you living in brotha?

Ok I'll make sure to check those two things. I don't think the leaf spring rub would be present though being as you've got 36's and I'll have 32's.
I may upgrade brakes at one point for better stopping power. I presume it's the 4runner or tundra calipers and disks? Can someone comment on this.

I'm in Poulsbo mate! Well... I float between Poulsbo and Port Angeles. I see you're in Tacoma. I've got a few snowboard friends in Lakewood. You're 60's a beast aye, I'll send you a pm later so we can swap details. I'm quite keen to join the WA Landcruiser community.

Here is are a few pics of toyota 16" rims without spacers, I think they are tundra take offs. They rubbed just slightly on the tre's with hammer on weights. One thing to remember is the up size in diameter helps the clearance issue. the tires are r16 255 85 BFG MT's. I added 1.5" spacers and then found some 70 series rims to run without spacers. The first picture is with the spacers and the second two are without.

I bought standard Toyota OEM 16" steel wheels for Landcruisers from the local dealership. They fit perfectly and as I recall they were cheaper than any aftermartket wheels. I'm running LT235-85s and LT 265-75s with no problems.

Anyone have the part number for theses steelies?

Thanks
