UPDATE
Engine is out,
took injectors to Mead Diesel, one was not working as it should (no.2 cyl.) got it fixed and the others were flow tested and worked well.
Stripped engine to the long block.
Found that no thermostat was in the housing.

Saga continues...

Had to pull the head wanted to see what was the cause of the low compression was in cylinder 3.

The cylinder walls look good no scratches, can see cross hatching from honing. Some carbon on head, must be rings?

Here are some photos of cylinders and head....

Oil and carbon in a cylinder can be caused by leaking/worn valve guides and seals. Worth checking those for extra wiggle.

Why does your head gasket have room for pre-combustion cups? Did someone use a 3B gasket?

Thanks will do. It was smoking like crazy with blue smoke continuously. No. 3 cylinder tested 28 psi before removal.

Gees, didn't see that, the engine was supposed to have 110,000 km. On it but apparently not.

Would that affect performance?

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong. maybe the gasket sealed that area off!

I'll check that. Here is a photo of no.2 and no. 3 cylinder Pistons cleaned up. Note metal ridges on no.2 piston, not sure what that is about?

No.2 & No.3 pistons

Something hit the piston.

Compression rings fell out in pieces and some were thin as paper.

Hard to believe that the cylinder walls didn't get scored.

Lesson learned, always get a compression check on any engine purchase.

I was told that previous owner stated that the engine had 110,000 km., certainly not the case when pulled apart.

Now looking at $3000-$4000 engine rebuild if I do it.

Hope this helps someone else.

Recently rebuilt mine, the kits fairly cheap about $900. Did all labour myself except for then machining cylinders and head. Pretty pleased with the result!

Wow that is inexpensive for your kit, mine cost $1900, what company did you purchase from? What did your machining cost?

im lucky that engines australia is just around the corner from work, one ebay here they are around the $1400 mark. machining from memory was abokt $2k i think! (can look it up if you need?) but that included removal of old sleeves, installing and machining new ones, head machined, valves, valve seats and guides. I also had the fuel pump bench tested and injectors done and the rebuilt the lifter pump. that was around $1200 but was in ok condition i just thought i would have it done anyway. just had it on the dyno with 14psi boost fuel to match and had gains in torque, now pushes around 360NM its fun to drive

Got my engines Australia rebuild kit and parts are at machinist.

Looking for a camshaft.

Does anyone have knowledge of any interchangeability for cam shafts, I need a 13511-56050.

Can get a 13511-56040 or a 13511-56030, will these work in a 13BT?

Any first hand knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Ended up that the camshaft is no longer available new, so sent mine off to Shadboltcams.com to have it ground.

He was recommended by a friend. He has a good reputation and is very reasonable at about $150 tax in.

Packed the cam in 3" abs pipe with padding and shipped Canada post.

Do you remember which way the thrust washers for the crankshaft go in? One side of the washers has grooves.
