12ht Rebuild, just about finished -couple questions?

Could some please tell me what this VSV valve does, the 2 vacuum tubes of this VSV runs together with the turbo vacuum tube led light switches which bolts to the right hand guard. (they are just draped over the engine at the moment)

I know how the 2 turbo led's vacuum switches work to activate the red & green led's in the tacho, but what does this switch connect too? it bolts on to the guard close to the led vacuum switches?

PS. This is not the VSV which attached to the inlet manifold to activate the shutoff butterfly actuator, I have that one worked out?

Are you referring to the 2 connectors from turbo light VSV, if you are they are the electrical sockets that send the signal to the tachometer turbo lights, there must be some connectors sitting inside guard I suspect

Its the one circled in yellow, I know about the twin vacuum switches for the tacho green & red led's, it's the other VSV in yellow which controls something that I am trying to work out.
I'm thinking it could be to engage 4wD, do you have push button for 4WD , plus it could be the master VSV that activates when ignition is turned on and allows vacuum to other VSV
It does look similar to the main VSV in a 13bt, although ours is sitting on firewall above brake booster ??

Ok, its idle up switch for the air-con for the vacuum actuator on the IP. This actuator is a double (2 stage) as the its also the idle up for the variable pressure power steering pump, so when you turn the steering wheel at idle the engine revs increase.

Watrob ... that last pic isn't fair .. I'm battling to keep my garage floor relative clean .. not fair dude not fair ..

I picked up another 12Ht on the weekend, which will be another 200 hours of rebuild etc, then I have this to strip to bare chassis, hot dip in gal and rebuild axles, diffs, coils, shocks etc, then a put a 43 series fibreglass tub on!

Not doubt about you Watrob, your a true cruiser engineer, making cruisers from all the better parts of the wider cruiser family, sounds like fun.
while your missus zips around with her wheels, your happy just busting and scarring your knuckles on old cruisers, or a 12 ht , or rolling chassis, another 12ht , etc and any part you can get your hand on to.
Your garage could be named Beauty and the beast

Thanks, its doing it I enjoy, I will finish off the current build in the next couple weeks, in the mean time, as like the current build, I am sourcing parts. I have learnt that when you want a part you can never find it or when you do you then pay to much for it because you need it now.

Started pulling down this 12ht and I found the vacuum heat sensor idle up valve smashed (as it was on the one I just rebuilt also), these sensors are also on Corolla 1983-84 models, Coasters & Starlets, anyway found two more, this one is off the first 12HT, plastic is cracked.

Ordered the 43 fibreglass tub today, delivery March 2015, six months is not to bad. By the time I source parts, rebuild the 12HT, strip & gal the chassis and rebuild all the suspension components, probably be good 12 months process.

But first I want to enjoy the new build I am just finishing off over this coming Christmas break on the beach with my wife, family and of coarse my FJ:cool:

How you getting you parts cleaned up so well? Sand blast and powered coat appropriately?

My air cleaner box needs a tidy up!

My air cleaner box needs a tidy up!

If I cannot get it clean enough to paint myself, which usually takes a lot of work, I have it sandblasted. Then depending on the item, once cleaned and, if I have it hot dipped in gal, I will etch prime & paint myself. But my air cleaner below, I had it lightly sand blasted, epoxy primed & powder coated by a company just around the corner from my office, came up quite good.

I have another spare air cleaning and that one I am going to have galvanised first and then paint myself.

This is a brand new ARB bar, I had it sandblasted, then hot dipped in gal, then to the powder coaters to be epoxy primed, run thru the powder coating process twice and then had a top clear coat.

Axles were done by the same company.

I etched primed & painted the gal chassis myself.

Hi Watrob what model is your throttle cable from for your 12ht

The cable (from a 60 series which had a 12HT) has a connector joint to accept the ball on the IP throttle lever. I have a late model HJ47 1984 40 series peddle box and the throttle peddle I installed suits a 2H diesel, so the connection on the throttle peddle where the cable connects to is correct.

I remember when I went 2H I had to get a diesel throttle peddle because the petrol version has the wrong connection.

Did your 75 have a petrol engine in it before the 12HT?
