Looks nice and fresh to me. Probably just a bit of oil suction on those two push rods.
Yeah could be. Was pretty stuck. I'll see when I have them in my hand.

I'm hoping I have some sort of "aha" moment here where I'm looking for a noise.

( Not aha, there's a dildo in my bicycle seat. That's more of a langford thing.)

I figure there's a good chance I'll have this all apart, and put it back together without finding anything.

If I achieve nothing else from all this, I'll be happy to have all this muck cleaned out. When I bought this truck, you couldn't see the injectors because there was such a huge pile of pine needles and squirrel s*** covering the top of the engine.

Mr T being Mr T, there of course was a borderline inaccessible mounting bolt right in the middle on the bottom.

It'd be nice to change that gasket below on the oil cooler, but I don't know if that comes off without removing the injection pump...in which case, fawk that noise.

Gasket on that intake manifold was hard and cracked, so I suspect it was just oil oozing down from there making the mess.

Bit better.

Getting the head bolts out was a workout. I'm sweating like Bradford on his bike.

Also managed to get all the exhaust manifold fasteners out without breaking any. However...

I don't think that manifold is going to come off of that stud before it hits the firewall. Had hoped I could just loosen the turbo mounts and it'd be out of the way enough, but I don't think that's going to fly either.

Might just lift the head with the ex manifold on it and wiggle it loose as it comes up. :meh:

Made a pretty good attempt at removing my pinky nail during this process so I might be done for the day.

Still feel kinda weird after the mystery potion injection yesterday. Suspect it's Bill's nanobots coming online.

The siren call of the couch is summoning me.

Trick is to have already had the Covid then the vaccine causes little to no reaction or affect on your built up natural pesticide free antibodies, or your infection riddled corpse..

Speaking of we haven’t had an update here after that last cryptic sign off!?…

My consciousness was uploaded to the cloud. I am now a slave program piloting the driverless trucks across the southern states.

That or I'm at work plotting how to build a valve spring compressor out of some unistrut and ready rod.

Tough call.

Im going to Duncan tomorrow morning....
Hhmm. You don't say... course I'm not working tomorrow morning :bang:

Thanks for the offer, I guess it'd depend on Steve. Thought he'd have to go get it first anyways?

Not the end of the world if I don't get it tomorrow. I work the next two nights so I wasn't going to accomplish much anyway.

Had considered bombing down to Vic after work sat or Sunday morning or sometime next week too.

All good.

I have two night shifts to come up with a homebrew version, because they're my last two before vacation I won't be doing much actual work

I have used a valve spring bar like this before, you need a post or bolt from the rocker bolt holes for it to work. They are not optimal but do work.

I figured I'd take some measurements today and mess around with it tonight to see what I come up with. Maybe nothing

I'd be fine with buying one too, just haven't found them listed online. I think Gregg's has a few, but they don't show prices.

I’ve got one like this around. I’ll need a bit to go dig it out… hasn’t been used in 15 years +/-. I know roughly where it was, but the minions… who knows what they may have done to try and hide it.

Last time I did them on an F, I used a pickle fork and some washers… or something. It was in ‘92 so the exact details are a bit foggy.

Don't sweat it. This is just me enabling my malahat allergy.

I'm sure I can figure something out, as long as it's stable and not a risk of pinging off one of those keeper dealios. Because I'm sure they'd be a treat to find.

We'll see. Never really know how a shift will go. Sometimes bored with tons of time to mess around in the workshop, other times it's a zoo.

Worst case I zip down to vic and bug Bradford after work Sunday morning, with a handful of coffee beans to chew on.🤪

Popped the head off and got it superficially clean. Nowhere near clean enough of course.

Actually some blue paint under the mung

Can still see the crosshatch in the holes so that's a good sign. Probably hard to see.

I have zero interest in climbing underneath today. Think I'm gonna raid the cardboard bin tonight so I can cover the floor, and then give the block a good scraping before I take the pan off.

What are you going to use for head bolts? Just reuse old ones or have you found new ones?

Older Toyota diesel head bolts aren’t torque till yield or anything silly like that. They are fine to reuse if undamaged if a person is worried there’s specs in the manual to check them but I wouldn’t bother.

Yeah I was just going to reuse the old ones.

Read somewhere there's a Mitsubishi or something head bolt that works if shortened slightly. Fraction of the price of Toyota and stronger, but meh. Not today.

Did you find an MLS head gasket or just get the Red factory head gasket?
